2nd Trimester

Guess I need to start doing daycare research this week

Ugh. ?I'm really hoping I can find someone in our price range to come to the house, at least until the next school year is over, but just in case I don't, I'm going to check out some centers this week. ?I don't know how quickly they fill up in our area.

Should I call and make an appointment or just walk in? ?I don't really know how they work in that regard.?

  • You want to see how things really are, I'd just show up. I work in a preschool and there's also a daycare in the same building. Sadly, things are run WAAAAAAY differently when they know someone will be showing up.

  • I would call first. Then you can make sure to talk to someone while you are there and maybe look at paperwork.

I see what you mean, but I am a director and usually give the tours.  I never tell my staff when someone is coming.  I guess it all depends on the place.

  • Just wanted to let you know the state ratio for GA is 8:1. My friend works in a daycare in Columbus and she says it's hell..

  • Dont remind me! I need to start doing this also. But I would do a drop-in and maybe set up a more indepth appt while you're there?
  • Infant rooms there is usually 2 teachers in there, but once there is only 8 kids its down to 1 teacher. I will ask her again though.

I tried going through my old posts to find one that she replied a lot on, but there's too damn many and I can't find it!!!

  • No problem. ?I googled it. ?It is 1:6 with a maximum of 12 in the space for infants. ?

  • First call and make the appt.  You get the basic info, ask your key screening questions and you will definitely get a gut feel for the place either way.  If it seems worthwhile, just drop by later.  I really only ended up with 2 out of about 5 places that I was interested in visiting again.  The rest got nixed on either answers to my questions or gut feel alone.

  • I have my name on 4 waiting lists and 2 of them have an open door policy, which you can stop in at anytime.  I did speak with the directors as well, who told me when they would be there.  I would just do your research and it will all work out.

All of the places we have looked at or are on the wait list for are 1:4 for infants.
