Any delayed vaccinators on?

I was wondering what age you started and what vaccines you started with?

Our plan from the start was to start Katy at 3 YO so she would be done before school age.  I am thinking the first two will be Diptheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (although I really want to break that up since the Pertussis component seems to be the dangerous part) and polio.

Also, what was your schedule like once you started and why?

Re: Any delayed vaccinators on?

  • Have you read Dr. Sears The Vaccine Book? I would suggest it if you have not read it already. It has a lot of good information for delaying and what vaccine are the most important for each age group and why.
  • Ditto on Dr. Sears and the Vaccine book, we are following his delayed schedule for all the reasons he listed in the book. Check it out. It tells you what order to go in and why.

  • We have done Dtap, Hib, and pneumoncocal (sp?).  We started those at 6 weeks.  We are delyaing all others until school.  My doc is pretty flexible but thought the above were important, the others not so much.

I haven't read the vaccive book, but just ordered it.

  • I would at LEAST look at the risks of delaying and the current outbreaks. There's a measles outbreak right now. And even if your kid doesn't die of it they could pass it on to a newborn who couldn't be vaccinated (or an old person whose immunity is lower, or someone with allergies to the vaccine who can't have it).

I don't care that you don't want to hear it - it is totally irresponsible not to vaccinate everyone who can be vaccinated, on time. It isn't just your kids life you're playing with.?

  • Really?  You are waiting until the age of 3 for any vax?  I didn't think that was possible except for religious reasons or immunity/allergic reasons.

You are aware that babies can die from whooping cough?  We had at least 3 die in Texas last year (before June) and one was only 27 days old.

I'm sure you have discussed this with your ped, but I am currious why you are waiting so long for any vax?  My ped said there are lots of people here in Texas that aren't immunized and that increases the risks of becoming infected.  You could come in contact with some disease while standing in line at the grocery store.  I find it scary, but I'm sure you have your reasons, but I would be curious to know what they are.

  • I am in medical sales.  In order to get vendor clearance to go into certain areas of the hospital, I had to go through a vendor credentialling process which included providing proof of immunity to nearly all of the diseases for which there are vaccines.  So I am certain I have immunity, checked within the last two years. (Titers for everything, fortunately paid for by my employer)

  • We aren't delaying til 3 because W. goes to daycare adn I feel he needs to be vaccinated bc of that.  We do one vaccine a month, which means he is quite behind as they typically give like 4 a visit.  As he gets older he is catching up, since they get fewer and fewer each time.

My reason was that he was extremely fussy/cranky after he got all the 2 month vax and when we split them up he didn't get get that lovely side effect.
