Chicken Pox update

I think I mentioned a week ago how two of my students had the chicken pox. I called my mw and they suggested I get my blood tested for immunity even though I had had it as a child.

I got the call back from my MW today and it seems regardless of having it in 5th grade, I am not immune. SOB! I hope to God I do not get it from those kids.

Re: Chicken Pox update

  • wow!!! One of my co workers was hospitalized for viral meningits and another for pnemonia, its an icky time of the year!! We should wear masks and long bodysuits daily, i seems like all the kids are sick right now. Im surprised that kid didnt get a vaccine for CP, it seems rare these days.

Both of the kids in my class (and the two others out from 7th grade) had been immunized. The immunizations are not lasting and the kids are needing to get boosters.

  • To get the Chicken Pox again as adults its call Shingles. Me and DH thought we were both immuned. I have never had them and DH thought he did. A co-worker from my old job (2 yrs ago) had them and because we worked with cell phones (the phones I guess he used weren't sanatized) I brought the Chicken Poxs home. Needless to say because my DH was sick all ready, he got them. I didn't. I am the one who infected him though. It was the worst chirstmas EVER. I got an ear infection and had to go to the ER on that same christmas morning. Indifferent

Sorry, I have to correct you. You can get chicken pox again as an adult and not have it be shingles. Shingles can happen when the dormant chicken pox virus reoccurs on its own in adults.

  • Oddly, this is what makes me not want to give my kids the vaccine.  I'm just going to find another kid with Chicken Pox and expose them to it.  That way we don't have to guess when the immunity wears off from the shot.

Thats what my parents did to me.  I'm sure that it was itchy, but now if our baby gets it I dont have to worry!  I'm immune.

My husband and I aren't big on that vax either but haven't decided what we'll do or if we'll go for a waver.
