hospital bag must haves

anyone have a list or a link to a list of things each of us should pack in our bags?

Re: hospital bag must haves

  • I can give you a list of what I took, but I'll only list what I actually used:

    For you:

    1.  Underwear that you don't really like.

    2. Slippers and/or socks

    3. Going home outfit. (Something that fit you when you 5 - 6 months pregnant and that is comfortable) and comfortable clothes during your stay (all depends on how long you will be kept in the hospital - I stayed 3 days and only wore hospital gowns the first day)

    4. Facial soap, shampoo/conditioner, comb, make-up

    5. Labor comfort aids - I took tenis balls, lotion etc, but I didn't actually end up using any of it.......

    6.  Sanitary pads - heavy flow and/or overnight ones.

    7. Lansinoh and breastpads(if you are nursing)

    For baby:

    1. going home outfit and any other clothes you want to take.

    2. swaddle blankets

    3. diapers (the hospital provided them while I stayed plus wipes and vaseline, but you might want to take your own).

    4. carseat!

  • Comfy socks and clothes.

    Baby's outfit.

     CD's or I-Pod

     Shampoo/Conditioner

    camera

    Book

You are going to have people come visit you and trust me you don't want to much b/c they bring you things and it will take you FOREVER to get them out of the room and get everything home and away.

Also the hospital has everything else you will need.

  • Also depending on how long you stay you might want to take a book and/or magazines.........and add a soother to the list for the baby, you might not actually use it, but you never know.

  • Just a suggestion too, you may want to concentrate more on where everything is in your house that you will need and make sure you have it all.  It takes FOREVER to get out of the house with a newborn and you may not want to the first week or so.  I put all the things I would likely need through the day in one spot (extra wipes, Clorox wipes, tissues, favorite beverages, mags, books etc.) so I could get them easily and not have to go up stairs or run out and by something.
  • I way overpacked.  FOr me all I needed was toiletries, pajama bottoms and going home clothes.  THe pads and underwear- I used what the hospital provided.  For DD just the going home outfit and carseat.

I also packed one bag for the delivery and one bag for the recovery.  THis helped.  THe one thing I wish I had brought but didn't think about- snacks.  Both nights I woke in the middle of the night STARVING and there was nothing.  THe nurses all offered food they brought from home, I was so pitiful.  I am so packing some crackers and protein bars.
