I just wanted to post an update! Sophia was born via c-section on Wednesday, February 11th. She was 4lbs 15.7oz and 16 and 3/4 inches long. I was 36 weeks and 3 days pregnant.
We had a very big scare with her in the hospital on Thursday where Sophia was rushed to the NICU after she stopped breathing. They performed cat scans, EEG's and were considering a spinal tap. When they were completing the EEG, she stopped breathing again and they were able to monitor her brain activity. The neurologist immediately stated that Sophia wasn't 36 weeks gestation when born, but closer to 34 weeks along. She has Apnea of Prematurity, which all babies have and grow out of naturally around the 35-36 week marks. Because Sophia is younger than that, her brain hasn't yet developed the ability to tell her to automatically breath and so sometimes she forgets.
Today we received some good news! While I am being discharged tomorrow, she will have to remain in the hospital. BUT - what was supposed to be a 1-2 week stay, could only be a couple of more days! Not only that, but they will allow me to start nursing her again this evening. I've been pumping and taking whatever I could down to them in the NICU to feed her before supplementing with formula. They also took her off of her IV and she is up 8grams in weight today from yesterday! So all good news -- hopefully I'll be posting very soon that she is coming home with us!
Thank you for all the well wishes!!
Re: UPDATE: Baby Sophia
That must have been so scary! I'm glad she's doing well, and I hope you get to bring her home very soon. Congrats!
That's very scary, but sounds like things came out well. I'm sure she'll be home with you in no time.
I started having contractions on Sunday morning. Woke up with a lot of cramping, lower back pain. So I went into L&D and had to stay for 11hours while they pushed fluids to try and stop them. I was sent home after having only 5 in a 2hr period (when I went in, they were 1-2 minutes apart). Luckily, I wasn't dilating!! I went to work Tuesday and was counting contractions during the 4hrs I was there. I counted 12 in the last hour I was at work, so I called my Dr's office on my way home. I asked if I could try pushing fluids / staying off my feet at home first. They advised I would get a call back. After two hours, I had over 30 contractions - they told me to get to the hospital. I had only dilated 1cm because I was having mostly back labor. After 24 hours of observation, they decided to do an Amnio to test her lung maturity. They came back mature so they immediately delivered via c-section (my first DD was an emergency c-section so they didn't me trying vbac).
