labor and delivery items

i've never been a robe girl... but i'm reading you should bring a robe to l&d... are you all planning on doing this? do you want a light or heavy robe?  long or short?  i can't believe of all the things i'm stressing about regarding labor and delivery today is a damn robe haha!

Re: labor and delivery items

  • If you aren't a robe girl, I am not sure that you would suddenly need or want one at the hospital. I am a robe girl but forgot to take mine. I was glad. There was a lot of blood and I only wore the hospital gowns while I was there. It was May and I wasn't cold or anything.

  • I am not, but I ma delivering in August, so I can't even think that I would want a robe, even a light one... Not to be graphic, but if anyone is bringing a robe, be sure it's not your favorite as it will probably get messy...

  • I didn't use one at the hospital. One less thing to pack.
  • I'm not a robe girl...but plan on getting one.  With all the visitors, I want to stay covered up, and it's able to be taken off easily too.  Also, with all that bleeding, who knows if I may have a leak, and this will cover up my hiney for when I do have visitors. lol

I'm thinking since hospital rooms are often cool, I'm going to do a medium weight one.  Not too heavy, not too light.   Or maybe buy one of each.  I think hospitals sometimes have the really light ones though.

  • Robes are nice if you may be walking the halls...hides the glorious hopital gowns they give you.
  • I did not pack one and I did not miss it.  Our hospital you could control the temperature of the room with a thermostat right there, so the temp was what we wanted.  I also found my hospital always left me two gowns in the morning, so I could change midway through the day if something got on my gown, which really wasn't an issue for me after day 1.

  • Also, I am not sure about everyone else's experience but the gowns they gave me at the hospital were really thick, covered me well and were actually a pretty nice quality. I was surprised. And as PP said, they replace them often. Once you mess up your own robe or gown, that's a wrap.

  • You can always ask for another gown to wear backwards as a robe if you want to walk. Then you don't have to worry about mess and can still be covered. also if you get cold they will have bath blankets and small coverlets that make good wraps for the shoulders. I am not going to bring a robe.

  • I would say no.  I brought all sorts of stuff - sweats, yoga pants etc and didn't use any of it until the day we went home.  I wore the hospital gowns the whole time - it was just easier
