2nd Trimester

Anyone NOT as hungry as they were in first tri?

It's just me.  I know it's nuts but I am not as hungry this trimester.  I do try to eat more since I know I should and two weeks ago ate enough Easy Mac and Cheese to add on a few pounds but overall I am just NOT hungry.  My first trimester I was snacking left and right (no m/s for me) but ended up losing a few pounds.  This trimester I eat breakfast at 6:30, then a small lunch at 12:00, and have a small snack around 2:00.  Sometimes I snack on the way home but that is because my drive is an hour and I am trying to stay awake but I am never hungry for dinner.

So now that I have given you my eating biography my question is this- is there anyone else out there who is just not as hungry?

(I know, I know- this feeling will end as soon as I jump to the third tri but still- I am just not hungry.)

Thanks!

  • No, I haven't been as hungry either.  Not as many cravings and no queasy feelings if I don't eat every hour or two.

  • i'm "normal" hungry now.  1st tri, i could barely satisfy myself - i was always sooo hungry.  now i just eat like i've always eating pre-pg.  i tend toward low blood sugars so i am trying harder to break up meals and snack more but its not really because i'm that hungry.

  • Your eating habits will fluctuate. I'm now to a point where I eat a few bites and am full, but am then hungry a few hours later. As the baby grows your appetite seems to decrease.
  • well considering I continuously ate in the first tri to ward off the nausea or bad tastes, I am now eating less. I still have my days where I want to eat all day but generally eating less than in the first tri. I still eat more than I did before pg. though. I used to have plenty of left overs, no more of those!

  • I haven't experienced any kind of extra hunger throughout this pregnancy thus far. I guess it's different for everyone. Haven't had any m/s either.

I think that old "eating for 2" still weighs on everyone's mind. You only need an extra 300 calories... and not until 2nd tri... which is only an apple and small glass of milk. So it's not alot of extra food. You seem to be eating more than enough. I wouldnt' worry about it.

  • ME....Thank goodness.  I was getting the lecture on weight already!
  • It fluctuates for me. There are days where Im hungry all day and then there are days where I just feel normal.

  • I have almost been forcing myself to eat now.  I gained roughly 16lbs in the first tri--crazy, I know.  But I only ate when I was hungry, which was ALWAYS.  Now I'm not hungry much more than before getting pg and I don't feel queasy when I don't eat like before either.  I'm sure my body just packed on the lbs when I first got pg and now is leveling off for a bit before it picks up again.
  • Nope, my apetite has pretty much returned to normal.

  • I'm the same way. It seems like the minute I hit 13 weeks I was not longer so hungry.  I also can't eat the same volume as I did the first trimester.
  • My eating schedule 1st tri was a small meal about every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  Now, it's similar to yours - only I have to have my snack between bf and lunch instead of after lunch.  That's mainly due to my lunch period - it doesn't start until 1:02.
  • I am totally the opposite.  During first tri, I was even less hungry than usual.  I didn't have bad m/s, but I had this kinda constant nausea feeling.  Basically, I felt like I was always sort of sick, and I ate a lot of toast or soup for dinner.  The idea of a heavy meal disgusted me.  So, during 1st tri, I didn't gain a pound.  In fact, I didn't start gaining weight until about a month ago, when this ravenous hunger set in.  Now, I'm much more hungry, all the time - I'm eating more than I was pre-pregnancy.  I'm trying not to go crazy, but I'm also eating whenever I'm hungry.  That includes giant orders of nachos, chocolate cake, and other "naughty" options.

  • I'm the same way too.  I couldn't stop eating in first trimester and had no m/s either.  About two weeks ago I slowly returned to my normal eating pattern.  I do add an afternoon snack to get those few extra calories I need but I'm not feeling ravenous like in 1st tri.

  • totally opposite!  i was too sick up until about two weeks ago to eat most anything.  now i'm starving and can't get enough!!
  • I would see something and have to have in my first tri.. still a little in my 2nd but I never really have a huge appetite and didn't ever binge.?

  • I was just thinking that I am definitely not as hungry as I was in first tri.  I eat of course but it is more back to my normal eating habits.  In first tri I had more cravings and when I thought about something I had to have it or something bad was going to happen.  Now I would say that I just eat when I am hungry which is every few hours or so.  I am glad that it leveled off because I was scared!

  • i'm barely hungry... EVER!! like i eat 2 MAYBE 3 times a day and it's not large portions. i get full so quickly and get nauseous sometimes after. I gained 3 pounds over 3 and a half months, and now have lost 4 pounds. so i'm a pound under pre pregnancy weight. granted, i was overweight but still. i just wish it were this easy when i'm not pregnant haha
  • I, like aly410, have days where I can't eat enough and others that I'm normal.  My husband thinks I'm nuts but that is fine.  Yesterday was one of those days that I couldn't get enough.  I had sausage rolls from the doughnut shop for breakfast, Subway for lunch and at 4:30 I was starving and so I are some rice corn pops.  We went to Taco Bueno for dinner and the the mall and I wanted dip n dots and a pretzel.  I was able to hold off on the dots and pretzel but it was hard.
  • You're not alone!  I haven't been as hungry as I thought I would be either.  I would say that I eat more frequently, but they are just little snacks and I'm full in no time.

At my last appointment my Dr said, "Wow, and you gained a whole whopping pound."  I asked if I was in trouble, and he said not to worry... that the weight would come!

  • Well i have just recently lost my love of food. I don't eat near as much.
