you know what makes me angry about the nest... any moderators here to read this

this has been discussed at length on my local board as well.

whenever there is a tragedy and a post gets a lot of responses, such as phillyandashley's loss, it becomes a "hot topic" below.   Why do they not filter/check their hot topics so that someone's personal tragedy is not showcased as a 'hot topic'

  • I was just thinking this about 2 seconds ago. It seems in poor taste

  • That has happened several times on my local baby board as well and it really makes me angry that they do it. We have posted on the feedback forum, made other threads, emailed them and done everything to get them to stop, but it seems like they just don't care. That is just low to me.
  • I'm not sure the moderators have any control over that, unfortunately. The hot topic is likely based on number of views/posts. But I wish there was a way to override it.

  • I don't think that it's that they don't care.  The forums are basically a web application.  There's probably a default that says "if a post gets x views and/or repsonses in x time, it's a hot topic".  I would think though that they can manually remove those types of posts, but it may take some development work.

I do see your point though.

  • i'm sure it is based on post count/views -it just bugs me because it has happened multiple times with multiple tragedies and i know personally that letters have been written, emails, complaints etc, and i think by now they should have a screening system in place

  • agreed. even though we want to be able to find posts we've missed, it seems heartless to consider it a 'hot topic'...
