Re: Sciatica

  • Massage helps me. I had it prior to pregnancy so this is nothing new for me...

  • I have DH roll a tennis ball over my back and down my legs at night. The doc recommended it and it does make it feel a little bit better after.

  • I went to the dr last night and mentioned it she gave me an information sheet on stretches I can do.  I did them before bed and woke up and my hip/lower back feels great.  Have you tried stretching.  She told me if I don;t stretch it is only going to get worse.
  • I lay down on the opposite side and attempt to take the pressure off that hip - so far it's worked for me
  • I'm icing it as we speak!

  • I'm stretching, but not really my back.  Until this morning I thought it was just an old hamstring injury acting up.  What kind of stretches are you doing?

I'm going to have to mention the tennis ball thing to DH.  Regular massages don't seem to be helping.

  • i've been told heat and soaking in a hot bath, which i admit i haven't tried yet. Massage always helps me loosen the muscles.  Also excercising on the yoga ball helps stretch.  My chiropractor taught me excercises to do on the ball.  the first is a hip roll where you just basically plant your feet, keep your back extremely straight and then rock all the way to your right side but keep straight! Then you do the same w/ left side, front and back.  Also he told me to do "rolls" on it.  Same seated position on the ball but rolling my hips around in a circle.  Also, just a side note: DH loooves to watch and ooo and ahhh, so be careful! LOL
