GD mamas ... just have to AW

so since I was up last night from 1-4 with DS, I decided to take my number around 3 to see what it was. I'd last eaten around 9 and was curious what it would be in the middle of the night.

It was 107.

So I decided to drink a small glass of milk.

When we woke up this morning at 8:30?

My number was 80!!!!!

My fasting number has NEVER been below 93! I'm super psyched! And I'm wondering if I "cheated" by doing this. What do you think?

Re: GD mamas ... just have to AW

  • Yay!!

Totally not cheating!! I've heard of GD mommas having to drink a glass of milk in the middle of the night for ketones, so I don't know why it would hurt!! :-)

  • I don't know but I've found ways to "cheat".  I've been craving oranges like crazy lately and found that if I eat it with cottage cheese (I know, I know, not the most appetizing) my numbers stay low.
  • thanks, Brenda! that's what I'd heard too so I thought it would be OK.

I'm going to try it again tonight and see if it works again.

and ras, you are too funny. I've been craving oranges too but I can't stand cottage cheese.

  • Good for you! My question is really what is Cheating if your numbers stay within the range they should? Because I am very open and honest with my OB and dietitian and write down everything I eat, sometimes I put ate 4 oreos, and my numbers are always within range. Even on bedrest. So am I a bad person when I eat oreos? Tongue Tied
  • that's awesome!!

a few nights ago i woke up at 3 or 4am and couldn't sleep. i decided to check my glucose level and it was in the 80s. i didn't take insulin the evening before since my #'s were fine, so i was really curious how they'd be in the middle of the night (doc thought they might spike while i'm asleep). i felt so victorious to know they weren't.
