Economy

Is it just me, or does it seem as though most Dallasites are taking the economic downturn in stride-at least on the surface?  Yes, I know one family who is having to "downsize" from their plush place in Highland Park to somewhere "nearby," "whenever" they're able to sell, but it seems to me that the malls and restaurants are still packed with customers.  Maybe we're just all in denial, or the lucky ones who weren't affected terribly.

Re: Economy

  • In our division, one of the builders has been unable to sell houses for well over a year.  In fact in the next few weeks they are going to try to auction it off (all contents included)...nothing is selling.   I am not too nervous only because we are not planning on moving anytime soon.  But I can say we have most definitely cut way back on spending in an effort to pay a couple things off.  But I don't personally know too many people that have been directly affected by the economy.

  • I haven't seen a drastic change that has affected me personally, yet.  However, there is a very good chance I will be laid off sometime this year, which sucks.

  • I don't think it's hit Texas yet. I'm scared to death to buy a new car because I'm affraid DH or I will lose our job and I don't want to be put in a tight situation with money. For now, we'll keep driving our paid for vehicles. I know the houses in my neighborhood are staying on the market longer. Used to if a house were for sale it was gone in a week. Now, the one 3 doors down from me has been on the market since last fall! I don't mean to be a "debbie downer" from SNL but I think the worst is yet to come.
