Yes, he's potty trained.  We did it when he was 2.5 years old.  It was super easy for us, but Alexander tends to catch on to things rather quickly and adjusts very well to "change" (unless it's new clothes...that he can't stand...lol)

I did a gradual process and I don't know if that contributed to success when the actual training started or not.  I started off at 15 months by introducing him the potty chair.  I would sit him on it every night while I ran his bath water, sometimes he would go (and get lots aof praise) and other times he wouldn't -- no big deal.

Then when he turned two I started a potty chart where he would get sticker stars for going to the bathroom.  It was all on his terms.  If he went to bathroom and just sat and didn't do anything he got 1 green star, if he peed he got 2 blue stars, and if he pooped he got 3 red stars.  Once he got 15 stars total (color not important) he got a special treat.  It was great, he liked the treat, but he also like putting on the stickers whenever he went.

Then at 2.5 we went cold turkey to underwear.  We had a few accidents that first week, but nothing too major.  I want to say that it took 2-3 weeks tops to be completely accident free.  Even during nap/night times because he wakes up to go (unless he's in a deep sleep).

  • Wow, thanks!! I never even considered giving him stickers. That's a great idea. I'm super impressed how quickly he caught on. I try to sit ds in the potty chair but he fights me. I guess I have to be more consistent with it. I appreciate the advice, thank you so much!!
