NBR: Found out why friend didn't get job

So my friend is a secretary and recently got her paralegal certificate.  We were looking for paralegals so I recommended her to our HR team to set up an interview.

They always do a phone screening first before setting up the interview.  She was never called back.  Today I ran into the HR guy and he made a joke about my friend so I asked why she wasn't called back.  Apparently this was the part that turned him off:

Him: So tell me, M, what do you do for "employer"
Her: I sit here and look pretty all day.
Him: haha that's funny. So what are your day to day activities?
Her: No seriously, I sit here and look pretty. Sometimes people come in and ask for directions so I give that to them.  I answer the phones but pretty much I'm just keying in extensions and then smiling when people pass by.
Him: Ok thank you.

Umm. o-kay.  No wonder, did she not learn in college that there is more to being a paralegal than looking pretty, and THAT is what an interviewer is looking for?

Yeah, I left my last job for the same reason, and I found MUCH better ways of phrasing it....such as the job responsibilities didn't match up with the expectations I had for the job or with my career goals.....not making myself sound lazy!!

LOL, well at least she didn't lie. Sometimes I wonder what the interviewer really wants to know when they ask that...you'd think they'd want an honest, no-beating-around-the-bush answer.
