Just my thoughts- gov't healthcare already stinks. I'm on tricare and I get jealous of those of you who see civilian docs- you seem to get more in-depth care.
well with people like the octo-mom going around, I can understand that. However, I think that we need to have free universal health care as just about everyother civilized country does. And I don't buy the argument that the quality of healthcare would go down because it is terrible as it is now.

The thought of everyone receiving the care they need, when they need it is a wonderful idea... I just don't know that the US government/society would be able to pull it off. Insurance companies would be unneeded, and pharma would essentially be a government agency. (not that it practically isnt run by the gov't as it is...)
The concept of universal health care scares me, as it would be a government developed program, and let's face it. Government. I think the UK has a plan where you can use the universal health care, but if you choose, can buy extra health care insurance, which affords you a higher level of care. As long as I could afford that, I'd be happy.

I haven't really had time to think about it. Healthcare isn't really our problem. Will changing it truly help our economy? It will help people like Octomom though...
If they are going to run it like they do the Post Office, DMV, or social security then forget it. After what I saw in the UK I'd rather not have them involved at all.
I'm more for finding out why pharmacuticals are so expensive when a lot of the research is paid for by tax dollars and donations. Also, why insurance companies think they can determine the quality and limits of our care.
Seriously - everyone needs to watch the movie "Sicko". It's on Showtime this month if you have it or I am sure you can rent it.
Even if you aren't a fan of Michael Moore, it shows you what healthcare is in other developed countries and shows how truly stupid our system is. It totally makes me want to move to Europe - especially France where you get 6 months fully 100% PAID maternity leave....
Being scared of the way it is going to be managed is not a reason not to try it. Already we are in hands of beaurocrats who influence Drs. decisions depending on how much they want to cover.
Almost half of the country is uninsured, people like this are even more expensive to all of us because inevitably they end up going to the Dr. when the problem is worse and more expensive to treat. Also most of these people are working people who don't qualify for government programs and can't afford insurance.
To me the benefit to everyone outweighs my conveninece or any fears to what is being done to my tax dollars.
Soon to celebrate the day we met, even if the day before marks when we said goodbye.

Octomom has healthcare she is covered by Kaiser. Even if she didn't have it they would not deny her medical attention.
The thought of delivering this baby in May without health insurance scares the *** out of me! When you can't afford health insurance, and yet you can't get help from the government, both spouses work full time and neither company offers health insurance your sol. We were on birth control, and lucky enough things have worked out this far, but I have no idea how much our hospital will be! I'm scared to death for anything that could go wrong, because we will be in debt over this for years to come!

Don't want to sound harsh but this is really selfish. Healthcare is not your problem until you are the one who can't afford it. It has really little to do with our economy. F@@# the economy what about people's lives.

It IS a bad thing. We would have to wait behind everyone else in line to get standard medical care. It doesn't matter if you're dying and have the money to pay out of pocket for treatment--you're not ALLOWED to buy treatment.

Vote no if we have the opportunity.
Where do you get this from? have you seen a policy already written?
Besides how many people would be in the "dying" situation if everyone gets preventive medicine. Emergencies? do you really think it works this way?

No, I do not want the same people in charge of the DMV to be in charge of my healthcare.
As far as the healthcare in other countries (Sicko), it is not 'free'. They pay for that in obscene taxes. And since there is no competition, there is no incentive to offer better health care. Choices are severely limited.
I am self-employed and do not have maternity insurance. We are paying for this baby out of pocket. I knew this would happen, and we adjusted our spending to accommodate. It's my medical care, and I find a way to pay for it. Simple as that.
I currently live in the Uk and have to say that I love the health care here. I don't have to pay for prescriptions, I can see a doctor at any time a five minute walk from my house with no copay. Being pregnant they came to my house to do my first appointment and will come back out after the birth. Everyone I have seen has been professional and helpful. It is so nice not to worry that if I am unemployed I will still be able to care. That being said I have seen some issues with the elderly that I work with that some things such as cancer in old age are not caught quickly, but I think that you have to be pushy in any system to make sure you are diagonosed correctly.
