Daycare adjustment question

I recently started my son in a new DC.He had been going to a babysitter during the day since he was 1.I thought it would be better for him to learn how to play with kids his own age and be in a learning enviorment. My only problem is when will he adjust? He cries as soon as we walk in the room and it kills me to leave, but the teacher said he will adjust easier if I don't hang around. Any ideas on how to help him adjust? I am sure alot of you have been through this so thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Daycare adjustment question

  • I think it just comes with time. My DD has been there since she was a baby but everytime I see a new kid come in, it takes them some time. I know its tough to see though.

  • MS started this particular MDO program in early September and he's JUST NOW starting to sort of be o.k. with being dropped off.  It is best to drop and run because they get over it quicker and adjust to being in their class.  It was so hard for me to do, but over time I saw that he stopped crying as soon as I left the room and had a great day otherwise.  I think it was harder on me than it was on him!  GL!

  • DS has been in daycare since he was 6 mths so he never had a real adjustment problem.  There was a little girl in DS's last classroom and she cried all the time being dropped off and when parents started picking up their kids.  After about a month she was super happy and she wouldn't cry anymore when the parents started picking up their kids.  It's mostly just in the mornings and end of the day.  They're fine in between!  Just give it time!

  • DD waves goodbye through the window and that seems to help.  We blow kisses, jump out and surprise each other, etc so we sort of make a game of leaving.  It really helps.
