We need two for our house, but I'm not really sure which to register for. I figured you girls would be best to come to Can you suggest yours to me and what you like/dislike about it? TIA
We bought the white plastic Safety 1st gates. They can either be attached directly to the wall, or used with there spring action attachment (not having to put holes in your wall). We really like them and have never had a problem. DS could not possibly open them up himself either.
For walkways that i want to block off (formal living room, dining room, etc) I love the hands free walk-thru gate by First Years. They are pressure mounted, so you don't need to install them.
For the top of the stairs, i got one with an alarm on it. So if the gate gets opened and is not closed properly, it will sound. This made me feel better sleeping at night. For the bottom, i just got a regular stair gate with the mounting bracket.
We got The First Years Hands Free Gate and we love it. It is pressure mounted which was important to us because we have really old woodwork in our house and we didn't want to mount anything. I also love that you open it with your foot. It makes things much easier when you are carrying a sleeping baby in your arms. It's in a high traffic area of our house and has been there for almost two years. It is very sturdy and has not needed to be tightened or adjusted once since we got it in.
You really need gates at the top and bottom of the stairs if you are doing them at all. What if the kid climbs the stairs from the bottom? The fall is just as long as if they fell from the top.
That being said, we never had gates on the stairs. We just taught ds to go down the stairs on his belly.

We have this gate as well, 2 of them actually and we really like it. I also have one that you install to the top of the stairs but honestly we hardly ever close it unless the kids are running around upstairs.....
Re: Baby gates
Where are you putting them?
