Moms of girls - bangs or no bangs?

When DD was little she would keep a bow in her hair and I could hold her hair back that way. But then she started yanking them out.

So I cut bangs when she was around a year old. But the problem is that all her hair grows forward, so I still ended up trying to pull some of her hair back all the time. Because the only other option I could think of is basically a bowl haircut where her bangs start at the crown of her head!

Now her bangs are starting to grow out and I put the front of her hair in pigtails everyday to keep it out of her eyes.

Will it be any better at staying out of her face when they're grown out more?

  • I do bangs only because she has a ginormous forehead

  • No bangs for my DD. Her hair also grows forward, but now that it's finally long enough, it can tuck behind her ears. Even still I usually do her hair every day.

  • We do no bangs, I just like the way it looks better, and I did not want to have to take her in to get her hair cut all the time for the bang trim.  Good luck!  Now my dd is obsessed with pigtails, and she will leave them in! :)
  • We've always had bangs on dd. She would not tolerate anything in her hair when she was younger so it was the only way to keep it out of her eyes. Her hair did grow forward like you are mentioning until she was at least 2yo. We kept it pretty short until then- but she had some curl in it so it looked pretty cute.

We contemplated growing them out now that she'll let us put barettes and bows in her hair, but it is so much easier to have bangs- It looks so messy to see little girls with hair in their eyes and I don't liek the idea of always having to put ehr hair back to keep it out of her eyes.

  • I never cut bangs with DD, and she very rarely will keep any sort of clip or pony tail in her hair.  Sometimes at daycare they could put one in that would stay when she was younger.  As she got older she just brushed her hair out of her face when it started to bother her (or when we asked her if she could see).  For the most part it started falling naturally to the sides.  I also found that if you put clips in the sides while it's wet, it will dry so that the hair stays away from her face better, even she when she pulls the clips out.

  • My DD doesn't have bangs.  Her hair is pulled back every day in either a half ponytail or full ponytail.  I use a rubber band and a hairbow so it's harder for her to take out.  Sometimes, I'll do a headband, but I have a harder time finding ones I like.

When it gets warm enough that she doesn't have to wear a hat every day I'm going to try pigtails too. Can't wait!

  • Ditto Krisbri.  Madelyn's forehead is just like mine...you could sell advertising space on it.  I like bangs better anyway.  I can't be without them on myself either.
  • No bangs for DD here.  She has a nice cowlick of the crown of her head and at the center of her forehead, so unless she cuts them herself she will not have them

She doesn't let me do piggies in her hair either.

  • No bangs for my DD. I didn't want to worry about maintaining them (she's never had a haircut) or eventually growing them out. Luckily, she loves headbands and ponytails so it isn't a problem.
  • Their hair grows forward for a while.  DD's hair was never that wispy, thin baby stuff.  It started out thick and STRAIGHT so it would have hung in her eyes if we hadn't done bangs.  I can't wait to grow out her bangs when she's older and can style her hair because she has such a cute face and forehead that I'd love to uncover.  Smile

Right now she has a cute little bob (sort of like Suri Cruise) that her stylist cuts wonderfully so that her bangs don't start back too far, but the other stuff doesn't fall in her face.

  • I absolutely did not want my DD to have bangs, but I had no choice. She will not keep anything in her hair and her hair was just looking awful, hanging in her eyes. So, I sucked it up and got bangs cut. She does look pretty cute with them, though. :)

  • No bangs for Kate.  She has my curly/wavy hair, and bangs just don't work. Her hair is constantly in her eyes because she refuses to wear a bow and it is not long enough to tuck behind her ear yet.
