Bedrest here I come!

So I had a bad checkup today at the OB.  Since I admitted honestly to having contractions (which my OB has known for weeks and hasn't thought it was a big deal) I had to have an internal exam at which point my OB discovers that I'm already almost 2 cen. dilated and 50% effaced.  She immediately dropped the bedrest bomb on me and gave me the first of a series of steroid injections for baby girl's lung development!  I cannot have this baby this early!!!  I left the appt. in tears!

Re: Bedrest here I come!

  • So sorry.  Best of luck.
  • Aww!  (hugs).  I prescribe lots of nesting for you in the next few weeks.  Calm down baby, you'll meet your family soon enough.  I hope you have lots of help.

  • Sorry to hear of the rough appt.  At least you're almost at 33 weeks so hopefully this bedrest will hold off labor for a little while longer!  Hang in there!
  • wow! I hope she stays in for awhile- don't worry too much, I bet everything will turn out perfectly- this is just a little scare!
  • Bummer! ?Hang in there!!!! ?Be sure to follow doctor's instructions and take it easy. ?Try not to worry too much... it's great that you've made it 32 weeks- baby is already very mature in there (but keep her in a bit longer!).

  • Bellisimo!

I'm soo sorry to hear this.

However, I'm glad that they are doing whatever they need to get her to stay put. I will be praying that is the case.

I'm sorry you had such a bad day and no more tears. She's going to hang in there, I just know it!

  • It's hard, but definately doable!  I just went through the same thing with DD and she was born at 35.5 weeks and was perfectly healthy.  Are you taking terb or procardia or anything to stop the contractions?  The steriod shots will help and know that you are doing everything you can to help your baby.  At 32 weeks, I was 4 cm, completely effaced and contracting every 2-4 minutes, so very similar to where you are.

BTW, Emerson Claire was our second choice for DD.  We were still debating several hours after she was born.

  • (((hugs))) Rest and drink lots of water!
    .
  • oh that sucks!  Dont worry too much because you already got the first set of steroid shots.  Good Luck!  If you need to vent or need advice just ask....I was on some form of bedrest starting at 17 weeks and at 26 week I was put on strict bed rest.

Girl!  4 cm and completely effaced at 32 wks!!!????  O.k. I'm being a big ol' baby then because I thought I was bad off!  I'm relieved to here that you made it to 35.5 wks. and everything was fine.  All I can think is that she's going to come too early and have to go to NICU and then I'll lose my mind and become an emotional wreck because I don't handle "events" very well!

  • (((hugs)))  Do everything you can to keep her in there as long as possible, and let everyone else pick up the slack!  32 weeks isn't as scary as it could be, and I'm sure you know that chances are, she'd be fine even if you had her today, but it's impossible not to worry.  Try to take it easy!
  • That would be really scary, I'm sorry you're dilating already.  I hope bedrest works and she stays in for several more weeks!
  • Oh, I am so sorry.  :(  Are you on terb or procardia or anything like that?  I went through that will my first, and it is really hard.

The great thing is that you are already 32 wks. I am in a playgroup with a set of twins that was born at 32 wks and they are perfect.

    So sorry!  Hang in there.

Yeah, she put me on Procardia PRN and said that it may or may not help at all....I had to take it when I was pg with MS.  No terb this time though...although she threatened to send me to L&D if I was having contractions right then and there....I wasn't so I dodged that bullet.

  • Oh no :( Hang in there baby, you have to bake just a little longer, K?
  • I'm sorry. Get some rest though.

  • Oh no!  At least you told your OB and you're taking steps to make sure she stays in there as long as possible.  ((hugs))
