Prevacid & Constipation

Anyone else have this issue with Prevacid? DS seems to really be straining now that he is on

    DD has been on it for 3 months now and has never been constipated. I would ask the pedi about it. If you are formula feeding it could be that, but prevacid shouldn't do that.

    I don't have a baby on reflux meds, but I've been on PPIs before.  I'd never had constipation in my life until being on one of them (Aciphex).  I'm on Prilosec now and pregnant, and I have no issues at all.  You might want to ask the doctor if you can try a different drug.

    Oh, and by the way, those drugs can also have the opposite effect.  Someone I knew had constant diarrhea on Prevacid.  She switched meds (to Prilosec) and has been on it for years with no problems.  Again, not a baby, but the effects should be similar. 

     /am not a paid pusher a Prilosec...switching to Zantac (an H-blocker) or some other PPI might work for you.

    We thought that Prevacid was causing DD to be constipated so we took her off of it. Her stool is thinner but she still doesn't poop much on her own. I'm not sure if it hurt her & she doesn't want to poop now or what.
