Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If you rock/hold your baby to sleep...

... how long do you wait before putting him/her down in the crib?

At bedtime, DD is usually out by the time I finish nursing her, so I only wait 30 sec, but for naps I wait between 5 and 10min.

  • I used to wait 10-15 minutes because DS had to be in DEEP sleep before I could put him down.  Now that he's a little older I only have to wait a minute or so because even if he wakes a little, he's good at going right back to sleep.

  • the past two nights, i haven't put him into his bed.  he has slept on me on the recliner on the sofa.  i said i would never co-sleep but no sleep would be taking place if i tried to put him down.  :)
  • I usually wait a few minutes but it is just as much for me as it is for her. I enjoy watching her sleep and spending that time together before bed. Someday it may bite me in the butt, but for now it seems fine

That's pretty normal for a 1 week old.  It took about 3-4 weeks until I could get DS to go down in his pack n play or crib.  good luck!

  • Ehhh depends on the night.  I try to wait 10 minutes sometimes I put her down sooner like 2 or 3 minutes.  At bedtime she stays asleep alot better than at nap time. Naptime I def wait longer.  At bedtime it's honestly cause I want to just snuggle with her and kiss her.

    Same here.

  • It varies, we just wait till we can tell he's in a deep sleep otherwise he'll wake up the second we put him down.
