i don't think there is anything wrong with an occasional glass of wine.
i agree with an occasional few sips is no big deal toward the end...but at 6w? first, you've only known you were pg for 2w...its that hard to wait it out. second, baby is in critical development at this point including the heart starting to beat. i'm sorry...but i fully disagree with drinking in 1st tri, especially in the beginning of 1st tri.
Thats insane. I paniced last night when I had some dessert that I read after I ate it was made with a brandy sauce. DH had to reassure me all the alcohol would have been cooked out of it. But I couldnt imagine drinking anything. And at 6 weeks? At 6 weeks, I was afraid to take a tylenol knowing that it was ok. lol.
not that i agree with drinking at all - esp in the first tri- PLENTY of women drink far into the first tir- b/c they don't even know they are pregnant. I'm willing to bet many of our moms did. just b/c someone is 6w does not mean they have known for 2w.... not everyone in the world is as pg crazy as nesties and tests right away.
a good friend of mine just found out she was pg - she's 8w along - and has a 4 m/o son - so never expected to be pg.... stuff happens.
now- bragging about drinking is another thing... but it's certainly not the end of the world if someone has a drink or two early on.

I am just now getting over my resistence to medication. I am just too sick to be paranoid anymore. If I am not better by Monday, it is cough medication for me. Though maybe just the children's liquid kind.

i agree 100%, sometimes i skim and i missed the 6wks part- wine = fine in my book but that early = you have a problem lady.
Oh yeah! I am wayyy over being scared. I had a UTI:( at 19 weeks and pneumonia from 24 weeks-26 weeks. MY OB gave me cough medicine with codeine and I argued with him. lol. Hes like "Honey, Ive been doing this longer than you've been alive". Its nerve wrecking but if you are sick you need to get yourself better!! I had to finally tell myself if I didnt take it I was going to end up in the hospital and that could be bad for lil Maddux!
I found out I was pregnant at 7.5 weeks...I drank quite a bit on the weekends beforehand (it was the end of summer/beginning of fall, quite a few bonfires).
However, I did not know...and she did. I agree, first tri drinking isn't the smartest. I personally haven't had a drink of anything (outside of a sip of wine at my wedding) since I found out I was pregnant. It's just a rule of mine, absolutely no alcohol while pregnant....and I don't miss it one bit.
i had half a glass at 8 weeks with my meal and water. ?i split it with my mom. ?i haven't had any since and i won't for the rest of the pregnancy (i've found that wine no longer tastes as great while pregnant, at least for me). ?i definitely don't understand why she's bragging about it...
my SIL would drink a little here and a little there...i was pissed! she did it from the moment she becamse pregnant until giving birth. she's from Russia, so we chalked it up to a cultural thing even though i said my piece to her a few times about it
I had 3 freaking long islands when I was about 5 weeks, I didn't know I was pregnant. (I was getting periods every 6 weeks so I wasn't late yet!!) When I found out I was, it was the first thing I thought of!! I felt so bad I threw up for a few hours, worrying that I seriously messed up my poor baby!! I feel so guilty about that I can't even think about having anything now.

I posted this on the first tri discussion, but I'm really surprised at doctors saying drinking during pregnancy is OK. The CDC, which studies and tracks babies born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders, states the following on their website:
"When a pregnant woman
drinks alcohol, so does her unborn baby. There is no known
safe amount of alcohol to drink while pregnant and there also
does not appear to be a safe time to drink during pregnancy
either. Therefore, it is recommended that women abstain
from drinking alcohol at any time during pregnancy."

I'm not going to drink at all during my pregnancy... though I hardly feel that a glass of wine after the 1st tri will do much harm. But I don't want to chance it.
The only "risky" thing that I'm doing is dyeing my hair but my emotional well-being is important too (and gray hair does not equal a happy mommy).
I'm from Canada too and I've never had my doctor saying that it was okay. I personally don't think any alcohol during pregnancy is okay. I just wouldn't want to risk it at all. Maybe some doctors are fine with saying a little bit is okay. But knowing the risks I would be leary if my doc said it was okay.
Re: girl on first tri drinking alcohol
i dont either.. but definitely not in first tri. that kinda scares me. and the fact that she just found out she was pregnant and HAD to have some. lol
