Due date changed! Does it happen often?

At first I was given a due date of August 27th. Which everything was clear, like conception ect. However last thursday I went for my 2nd us and the doctor said the measurements of the fetus suggested that I was only 9 weeks and I day. She said that my new due date is September 5th. This would mean that I will go longer than the 40 weeks by plus 2 days. This is my first and I wanted to know how often are your due dates changed??

Re: Due date changed! Does it happen often?

  • Do you mean, how common is it? Or how often will it be changed in one pregnancy?

I think that if you have an early u/s, your date is likely to be changed if  the measurements are more than a week or so different from the edd based on LMP. Early u/s are typically more reliable. You might measure bigger or smaller at a later u/s but they don't change the due date by then.

As for me- with #1 my LMP due date was May 4. After an early u/s, it was switched to April 27. DS came right in the middle of the 2 on May 1.

Personally, I think we should all be given "due weeks" anyway instead of due dates anyway. Smile

  • I'm not as far along as you, but when I went for my first appointment yesterday, the baby measured 6w1d, by my chart and LMP I should have been 7w exactly. Not a huge difference, but in my case it changes the due date from September to October.

I think it's fairly common, especially early on. Figure they're doing the measurements in millimeters, if they're off a tiny bit, it's going to make a fairly big difference.

If the doctor is not concerned, I wouldn't be either.

  • It can be fairly common. I agree, if you're doc isn't concerned then you should be A-o.k. =)
  • My due date changed soooo many times with my first.

the first edd was July 7... first u/s it changed to june 30th, 2nd u/s changed to July 3. then when the dr got the u/s results she changed it to June 28.

I had DD on June 22

I never knew how common this was untill I was pg. But I guess it is

    Expecting #3 next spring!
  • I don't think it means you will have a longer gestational period, I think it means that you actually got pregnant on a date later than you thought.
  • They changed my due date from 8/15 to 8/20 my doctor said if their is a difference of 5 days or more they change the due date.

  • The 40-week estimation of your original due-date is based on your LMP. But since every woman ovulates and conceives at different times, your actual due-date could vary within 2-weeks of that original 40-week estimate.

Don't be freaked out! If i went by my LMP, my due-date should be April 30, but it's actually May 5th b/c of the gestational age of the baby.
