Maybe.. I got some handouts from the fleet and family support center and military gets a pretty big discount. So I'm going to look into it. I don't know too much about it and need to educate myself more before I make a decision.

We are definitely planning to, but then again we don't have to worry about the cost because it's free for military. I think we still would've done it if we had to pay.
I don't know if we can afford it, but if we don't bank it for us, I think we will donate it. My SIL told me that with her last she actually got a call thanking her - our nephew's cord matched a 33 year old male who was dying of leukemia. At least it will go to something good if we can't afford to save it "just in case".
We decided to do it. Although the cost is high, we decided that if you we ever needed it later we would just hate ourselves for not doing it when we had the chance. We are using Via Cord and it really isn't that expensive. They seemed to be the best choice as they also have a research part that studies possible uses and treatable diseases with cord stem cells.
Here is the best website I found during my research for donation:
www.givcord.org
They have a hospital lookup and lots of info about donating.
I decided not to do it because of cost and the usefulness of having your own cord blood. ?The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against it and recommends donating, because you can rarely use your own blood. ?A donor is often preferable. ?And cord blood isn't always usable anyway....I read that 70% of donated blood is rejected because it doesn't meet the criteria. ?Would they do that if you're paying for it, or would they just take your money and bank unusable blood??
If it wasn't so damn expensive we would. The concept is fantastic, but until they can make it affordable for the average family, or it starts being included in medical insurance, it's simply not feasible.?

We arent doing it because I dont think its ok for the banking company to be able to do research on something that I am paying for! I also think that nature can take its course!

Re: Cord Blood Banking
Same here..... =/
We want to donate since we can't afford it but how do you do that all the information we find is about banking it
Ditto.

Thank you all for your input!
To address this comment, from what I can tell they are the same companies- you just choose to donate through them instead of bank.

We aren't. You can't use it on the child it comes from and we are only having this one.
Also we have decided to delay cord cutting so that rules out donation.
