Wow, a sure sign of a crappy economy.

I've worked in my field for nearly 15 years now and every agency I've ever known ALWAYS has a chronic staffing shortage. The job is tough, doesn't pay well and there just aren't that many people willing to do it. Turnover is high and there are always lots of job openings that no one even wants.?

For the first time ever, my current agency has zero full-time job openings (in the past it was common for them to have dozens of open positions at any given time). That is just completely unheard of and when employment starts getting competitive in this field it's kind of a scary indicator of what's going on out there. It's great for the agency- they've had their highest ever staff retention rate last year and they're able to be more picky with who they hire, but it's certainly scary knowing that even the crap jobs are now unavailable.?

  • I'd love to talk to your HR people.  I recruit direct care workers and I'm still having a hard time finding quality people.  The climate may be slightly different here on the East Coast, though.

  • Yep. Try being a Recruiter....making cold calls with it in mind that "hey, I know there are millions out of work, but hey, want to pay me a $20k fee to get them for you?"

    It sucks.

    Happy 4th birthday!
