I guess I've been pretty lucky that I've had a fairly easy pregnancy so far - symptom-wise. During my first 10 weeks, I had fatigue, but was able to sleep it off - I had no problems falling asleep/staying asleep whatsoever.
Since 10 weeks I've been feeling great in every way, until one week ago.
I CAN'T SLEEP!!!!!! Anyone else? The last night I slept decently was a week ago Wednesday. Since then, I haven't gotten more than 3 hours each night.
I can't fall asleep. I can't stay asleep when I do fall asleep. I can't get comfortable, plus baby is doing trampoline exercises from 12am-2am routinely, every night. My skin itches, and my legs and back hurt.
I've tried a Snoogle, a Boppy pregnancy pillow, tons of pillows, and no pillows. I've tried sleeping upright in a recliner, on the couch, in a papasan chair, and in every position imaginable in bed (on my back with a wedge, on my left side like I'm supposed to, and on my right side.)
I've tried both Benadryl and Tylenol PM. Neither of those help.
I've tried exercising a lot in the afternoon. I've tried taking it easy all day. I've tried to take an afternoon nap. I've tried to stay active all day.
I have cut out all caffeine, and all sugar after lunch time (that was hard for me...)
I don't really know what else I can do here. I have always been a good sleeper. Every so often I'd have a night where I slept poorly, but never for 8 nights straight. I finally called my OB this morning and am waiting for the on-call doc to call me back. I don't really think there is anything they can give me that's safe for baby.
Anybody else dealing with this? The nurse at my OB office said that while insomnia can occur anytime in pregnancy, this is odd, and usually presents itself as fatigue in the 1st tri (yes I know, I had it, but at least I could get the sleep I desperately needed), and as discomfort in late 3rd tri.
Re: "Honeymoon" Trimester - My @$$!!!
I can't help with the not sleeping aspect, but I will agree that 2nd Tri is no honeymoon!!!! I'm more tired now then I was 1st Tri. I have heard of people taking melanonine (sp?). I don't know if it's safe for PG, but I have heard it can re regulate your sleep patterns.

Do you mean melatonin? That helps more w/ jet lag or SAD issues. It isn't safe during pregnancy.?
I, personally, did not have this happen but a friend of mine did. She had TERRIBLE insomnia that unfortunately lasted until she delivered. Oddly, she was having a boy too. She looked fatigued as ever, I felt horrible for her.
I would see if you can take any kind of sleep aide, but if benedryl and tylenol pm aren't working, damn.
I asked OB about melatonin (I have taken it on occasion pre-pregnancy), and he said no way.
I guess that though it's natural, no studies have been done on it, so they can't approve it.
I guess I'll just have to suffer through this, but it's encouraging to see that I am not alone. I feel very sorry for everyone else who is a walking zombie like me... I'm hoping that at some point I'll get at least one night of good sleep for some relief...
Ask your OB about Valerian Root, it's another natural alternative.
