We're thinking of switching. We currently have cable through Comcast and I don't know about all the bells and whistles we have, that's DH's area of expertise. Plus, our cable has been out for 10 days now, and they called today and said we're on the list, but there is so much storm cleanup that has to be done, it may be another week.
He's been talking to people about Dish Network vs. Direct TV, and he thinks Direct TV would be the way for us to go.
They have a discount for the first 12 months, then the regular rate would apply in one year. The regular rate is still cheaper than what we pay now with cable. And that includes the two extra receivers we would want.
Switching wouldn't affect our internet b/c our internet is DSL through the landline, which is actually faster than cable in my neighborhood. We may see what internet through DirectTV would cost and get rid of the landline al-together.
Anyone know the pros/cons to DirectTV vs. Dish Network and your experiences w/ satellite in general?
TIA from both the hubs and I.
Re: who has DirectTV satellite?
We had it when we lived in CO a couple of years ago, and it went out every time it rained. We were not big fans.
We've never had issues like that with cable/fios. We'll never go back.
We have DirecTV and I love it. I can't compare it to Dish Network, though.
We had DirecTV for 4 years, moved and got cable, and just switched back to DirecTV because we didn't like our cable service.
The nice thing about satellite is that the service is rarely interrupted. If there's a big storm with lots of clouds it might be interrupted for a while, but that's it. With cable, we had a lot of problems with "pixelation" on the screen. They came out and tried to fix it several times, but it was so annoying and happened constantly. Never happens w/satellite.
This may seem petty, but our cable was really slow to respond when you pushed a button on the remote - it was super annoying. And our cable didn't let you change the channels that were in your guide. You had to see all of the channels that were available, whether you got them or not. With DirecTV, you can change the view so you only see the channels you want - so we deleted Home Shopping Network and stuff like that, which we'll never watch.
We just got the DVR service, too, and I love it. I've never had it before and it's awesome. They gave it to us free for a year, but I think it's $6/mo.
That's all I can think of!
We have DTV and like it and haven't had any problems with it. ?When you call ask them if they'll give you any other incentives when you sign up other than even the intro 12 month offer. ?I've read on slickdeals that they'll give you way more than that to sign up because they're really trying to get customers. ?Chances are you can get them to throw in free hd receivers, movie channels, etc.
?We're longtime customers but my dh recently got laid off. ?I called and straight out said "can you do anything to help us out" and right away the lady said "I can give you $10/month off for 12 months. ?And then I told her I really wanted to watch Big Love and she said "I'll throw in 3 months free of HBO". ?It was seriously that easy!
?Good luck!?
