Babies: 0 - 3 Months

2month old getting shots tomorrow.

Hello all,

Im more of a lurker, but decided my question deserved to be posted. My two month old is getting his shots tomorrow, 3 to be exact. Now, I went to the store earlier this week and planned on buying tylenol or motrin for him, but only saw the infant's kind is for 6months and older. So my question is, what should I give him? Your probably all rolling your eyes, but I've looked it up already and nothing. I plan on going to the store so if there is something I can give my infant, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: 2month old getting shots tomorrow.

  • They have infant tylenol its cherry flavored and comes with a dropper. My DS had his shots already, the pedi recommended .8ml of tylenol. Believe me he needed it, he was in so much pain afterwards. Give it to him before the appt. so it has time to kick in. It takes 20 mins for it to work.

  • My DS is getting his shots tomorrow too.  My SIL said to ask the DR to order some Tylenol before DS has his shots.  Then ask what the dosage will be so you can give him some at home!! GL
  • igot a sample bottle from my ped and it is concentrated tylenol infant drops and they told me to give ds 0.4ml...i got it when he got his circ done

  • Not rolling my eyes. Unless you know your baby's weight it's hard to dose it correctly and OTC has to say 6mos plus but you can give it for younger it's just based on weight. I don't know the dosing at the top of my head but I would just wait until you go to the pedi to give him the tylenol. It's more meant for after the shots for fever, not for the shots. It will be okay..just wait till you go and then ask the pedi how much you can give him.

  • You need to know his weight to give the proper dosage.  You can bring it with you and give it to him there.  My DD's never had an issue with shots.  Some pedi's recommend not giving it because it can mask a fever if they have one as a side effect.

We did this too - 0.8 ml's 20 minutes before the shots per the pedi's advice...we continued every 4 hours for 24 hours (we didn't wake him at night though). ?I say bring the Tylenol with you and ask before you get the shots done what the proper dosage should be. ??
