Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Tell me I'm not alone...

My baby is sooo unhappy.  The first week of his life he was wonderful.  He'd sleep, wake up and be so content.  Then the crying started.  Around week three we found out he had acid reflux but he's been on medicine and he still isn't happy.  Then, I found out yesterday at 6 weeks that he has an ear infection.  The ear drops don't seem to be making him feel better either.  He won't lay flat or at an incline because of the ear pain and the reflux.  He won't swing, bounce, vibrate in seat, nothing.  He's only happy is you are holding him and he has to be upright.  He won't even let me wear him in one of the many different slings/carriers I've bought.  On top of him being so unhappy, I am trying to take care of my 23 month old DD and I feel like she is getting no attention because my day is spent trying to get DS to stop crying.

I am so exhausted and just at a loss for what to do.  I am either on the verge of tears or actually crying all the time.  My DH is helping all he can and I live near no family that can come to help me out.  Please give me some advice or tell me about your similar experiences!  Just tell me there is hope!!

Re: Tell me I'm not alone...

  • No words of advice, but I wanted to say I hope things turn around for you. You deserve to cry this one out. Frustration can add to your physical exhaustion. I know it may not be possible, but if you can, try to take a mommy only moment to relax, take a hot bath, and recharge yourself. I wish you luck, and hope your DS gets better.

  • i hate this for you!  my DD was VERY unhappy her first 6 wks of life.  she cried day and night!  she didn't like anything - the swing, carseat, bouncy, nothing!  we had to hold her, swing her in our arms, rock her, etc.  i cried everyday.  the drs said she probably had reflux, prescribed her Zantac and we thought it helped, but it didn't really.  Then one day for some reason out of nowhere, she didn't cry for like 2 hours and we were like, "what's wrong?"  in our case, time was the only thing that helped.  have you heard of the "4th Trimester" theory?  i'm convinced that's what DD's issue was.  at about 8 wks, she was almost a new baby - no more crying, happy, etc.  i will hope that for you too!!!

  • GoBigBlue ~ I haven't heard of the fourth trimester theory but I will do some research.  I am PRAYING that he will get better like your DD did.  THANKS

have you read "The Happiest Baby on the Block?"  that's where the 4th Tri theory is discussed.  some babies are just not ready for the outside world and need an additional 3 months to cope.  if you can recreate the womb best you can (the 5 S's), that might help.  again, good luck!

  • IS your DC showing any signs of pain? milk intolerance maybe?
  • I'm not noticing any pain signs.  Just a consitent unhappy behavior.
