Babies: 0 - 3 Months

anyone else's MIL watch baby...

while they're at work?  My mom and MIL switch off, but my MIL has Wednesdays, Thursdays and every other Friday morning.

I'm so grateful that she watches her but I dread picking her up from MIL's house.  Half of the time she has some 'she doesn't like her formula' etc comment... the other half of the time she has lost her clothes somehow (how hard is it to keep track of clothes?  Take them off.  Put in pile on counter.) or says something is in the wash (which means I will never e.v.e.r. see it again - the house is a pit).  By the end of my workday, all I want to do is walk inside, grab DD and kiss her face and walk right back out.  Unfortunately I have to listen to her nonsense...

Ugh, I feel terrible for thinking that.... but I do.  I'm so sleepy.

  • my MIL watches DS on Thursdays. After living with the woman for almost 3 yrs i still have to go see her every week, but DS gets to see grandma, and vise versa plus it saves us almost $100 amonth in daycare.I just MH would pick up and drop off more so I don't have to. Because you can't just run in grab him and leave like you do at daycare.

  • Here! MIL watches Lucie every Wednesday. It's been going ok, but like you said she can never seem to keep all of her clothes, toys and bottles together. It takes me 30 minutes just to round them all up. Oh well, free babysitter, what are you going to do?

  • i feel your pain! the first time i went to get my dd after my mil had watched her i noticed that she'd fed her from a bottle that "she bought" and she had totally different binkies. this irritated me becasue i felt like she should just use what i send. especially becasue i'm breastfeeding so i wanted her to get used to one type of bottle so that we could try to avoid nipple confusion if we could. do you think i was just being anal?
  • Yep, luckily DH drops her off in the morning so I only have to pick up... but I think he is getting the better end of the bargain.  Dropping off is quick! :)

Not anal at all!!  I think that's totally acceptable.  We send DD over there with her own pacifier and I've already bought several packs of backups for MIL to keep at her house.  Tell me why she ends up with her cousin's pacifier (MIL watches him, too) in her mouth.  Gross.

  • My FIL watches Anna on Monday and Tuesday and stays the night at our house every Monday night.  I love him and am so thankful that he's doing this for us as it's allowing me to keep her out of daycare, but he does wear on my nerves a bit.  He's into this weird health kick and is against eating anything with high fructose corn syrup and MSG, and don't even get me started on how anti-Aspartame he is (I'm a Diet Coke addict).  I'm tired of being lectured on the food choices we make considering that everything I ingest has at least one of those ingredients.  I know it's stupid, but I don't like being judged like that.  What I put into my body is my business.

I try to just deal with it as best as I can since he's really great in every other way and is helping us out greatly.

  • My MIL watches DD during the week.  She's great!!!! I really can't complain at all.  DH drops DD off and picks her up.  MIL is very considerate of how i like things done.  The only thing which seems pretty minor compared to other PP is that she puts on this baby perfume after DD has a bath that smells nasty.  But I'll take it for a free nanny :)
