Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Speaking of places you'll take your kids...

Will you take them to plays and musicals after they are, say, 8?  My girlfriends and I started going to see plays with our moms in the 3rd grade.  We'd all get dressed up and then go to dinner.  It was so much fun!  We still talk about it now and can't wait to take J.  Will you take your kids to that type of stuff?

(FYI, I'm talking more "As You Like It" than "The Lion King")

  • Yes!  My mom and I used to go to the ballet.  I would spend all day "getting ready" and we would go out to (what I thought was) a fancy dinner.  I can't wait to do something similar with ds.

  • would love to. I went to the LA Opera on a field trip when i was in 5th grade. I LOVED IT! :)
  • I was JUST thinking about this a few days ago. Some of my best memories were seeing Cats and the Nutcracker live in San Francisco with my parents. I loved going to see the children's play Charlotte's Webb.

  • I doubt that I would take DS...but my mom used to take us to The Nutcracker every Christmas.

  • Yes, definitely!

  • Yes!  This is something I'm looking forward to since MH hates ballets/plays.  :)

I LOVED going out to Broadway shows when I was little and I hope my daughter enjoys it too.  I'd probably start taking her around 5 or 6 if she shows any interest in it.

  • It depends on what type of child I have.. my son may not like the Ballet and my husband is not the type to enjoy Ballet so probably not that, but other plays and musicals, yes.
  • oh yeah or when he is 3or 4 and like Elmo os Sesame Street I'll take him to the shows.

  • I started going to the opera when I was five. My mom was in the chorus when my brother was born. I loved it! But, I get it that it's a little much for some parents.

We'll take DS when he shows an interest in things like that. I think The Nutcracker is great for almost any age!

  • No.  My son would never sit through that.  My mom was always dragging me to plays and ballets as a kid, I hated it!  I wanted to go to the hockey game :)

I love musicals now, btw.  You don't have to take kids to that stuff in order for them to enjoy it as an adult.

  • Nope, I'm not really into that.  We are world travelers so the kids will just tag along

I think it was fun for us because we always went as a group.  All the girls and moms would go.

  • Absolutely.  I loved going to plays & museums when I was a kid and I still love them!
  • Totally, I think that you can tell the kids that are used to going places. They are usually the ones that are behaving in public and not swinging from the rafters! DH and I are taking DD to Disney On Ice. More like we are going to see it and she's just coming along, but I'm anxious to see her reaction...
