not sure what to do...DD moves so much

in her sleep and it's getting a bit scary.  DH went in to get her this morning when she started making noises and he found her with her head at the corner of the crib, opposite where she was put down at 4am after I fed her, face down.  We swaddle her because otherwise she doesn't sleep but how the heck is she moving so much. When I went in at 3:30am when she was crying she was in the middle of her crib but, again, her head was opposite from where she had been put down.  Do we need to stop swaddling her so that she can at least do something if she's face down? This is the first time we've seen her face down but I don't think she's really rolling over so much as wiggling so much from side to side that force pushes her over sometimes.

  • Can't answer the swaddling part but our LO is the same. She usually wakes up 90 degress from wherever we placed her. Usually with her feet sticking out.

Could you try unswaddling her arms and not her feet. Maybe that would keep her from flipping.

  • DD does the same thing. We swaddler her as well but have been keeping one arm out as we are trying to break it. Twice last night before she finally fell asleep she had rolled over and we had to roll her back to her back. Usually every night, she starts out in the middle of her crib and by the time she wakes up, she is scooted herself to the corner of her crib and her face is against the bumper pad and i have to wake her and scoot her back to the middle. My goal is to have her competely unswaddled my March 18th when we go on vacation.  What our DD does is she arches her back a bunch and that's how's she scooting to the corner.
  • Aside from getting a sleep positioner (she shouldn't be in that once she can roll). I would say it's time to break the swaddle. It's not easy, we did it. It is dangerous for her to be in the swaddle if she can get to her belly.

FWIW: DD can roll over the sleep positioner and has been able to for about 3 weeks now.

  • Yeah with the sleep positioner we have she actually ends up off of it or at least towards the bottom so I stopped using it.  I also removed the bumper from the longer sides of the crib the other night but I'm so scared that she is going to end up face down and not make a sound.  She moves her head really well so I would think she'd move her head to breathe but we also just transitioned her to her crib this week so when I am probably not waking up as much as I was and definitely not looking at her as much.
