3 week old too small for swing?

Our DD is 3 weeks tomorrow and just now about 7 pounds (she was just under 6 when born).  I'd like to put her in the swing to nap, etc... but she seems to be too small.  It has the extra head support deal and we've tried to add an extra blanket under her to pad it a bit but she still seems to sink into a little ball and get upset within a few minutes.

Are you using a swing for your newborn?  Did you have to do anything to make it comfy for them?  Thanks!

  • Our DD has used it since we brought her home.  Our swing is kind of round and lays all the way back.  It's not the seat kind...

  • My 3 week old is only 6 pounds and  has been using hers for over a week..we  have the FP Little Lamb swing and do not need any extra support.

  • We have been using a swing for weeks now. Ours came with a head cushion (like your car seat) and one for the sides (looks like a sleep positioner). He does great in it. Sometimes we lay a blanket over it to make it softer.

Another thing we did was put him in it in a swaddle.

  • DS has used the graco luvin hug since he was a week old. He didn't need extra support but we did have to take the tray off. He would get irate if he couldn't put his feet together.

My DD is just over 1 week old and she loves this swing.  She's in it right now sleeping away.

  • We have a papsan swing that can either recline or sit up. I used to place a blanket rolled up next to DS so he was more snuggled into the swing.

  • I didn't figure out that our swing could recline till about 4 weeks in. Maybe check it and see if you can recline the back, that way she wont slide down as bad.

  • Thanks everyone!  I think ours does recline -- I'll try that and add a little support in the form of a rolled up blanket Big Smile.

We used our swing last week.  I used extra blankets on sides of he's head for support.Big Smile
