Formula and sleeping at night

Do you think it is true that babies sleep longer with formula because it fills them up more? I'm wondering if I should breast feed during the day and do formula at night?

Re: Formula and sleeping at night

  • We FF and DD does not sleep through the night, and she eats a good amount through the day. So for us it's not true (but maybe she'd be even worse if we BF who knows)

  • I really think it depends on the baby. My ds sleeps better with formula then on breastmilk but there where problems with my bm and supply.

  • My DD was BF for 2 weeks and then my supply ran out so we made the switch. She started STTN around 4 weeks.
  • right now I can;t tell if he sleeps longer because he is on formula or if it is because he is older. BF he would wake about every 3hrs to eat. I changed to formula at 10wks. DS sleeps form 7:30-130/2am eats and then gets up at 630am to get ready for daycare.

  • Formula is said to keep their tummies fuller longer, and DS (FF since birth) did STTN at 7 weeks. ?(Until teething started, no more STTN.) ?Who knows though, that could be coincidental.

  • we FF and he's still not STTN... although he's still pretty young to do it consistently. ?

you may want to think about whether you'd still have to pump in the middle of the night so as not to tank your supply if you're going to FF at night. ?i'm not really sure how that works as BF'ing didn't work for us...?

  • I think it totally depends on the baby.  There are moms on here who ebf and their babies sttn.

  • I combo feed (bf during the day with an evening bottle of formula), but unfortunately, it hasn't really helped with STTN.  My dd is 5 months and still doesn't STTN.  I think it really depends on the baby.
