Babies: 0 - 3 Months

cloth diaper question

Hello ladies,

I'm getting  the Bum Genius 3.0 cloth diapers.  I'm planning on doing disposable diapers for the first few weeks while the baby is tiny and everything is hectic, then switching.  My question is about liners.  How many do you need?  Which ones did you use?  I'm having a baby girls if that makes any difference.

I'm also planning on getting about 24 diapers.  Does this sound like a reasonable amount?

Thanks so much!

Re: cloth diaper question

  • Are you talking about the inserts? Each diaper comes with 2 inserts, one small one and one that grows with the diaper. That's all we use.

Yep.  24 diapers is good, and the inserts are included.

  • You shouldn't need more inserts than what come with the diapers. It's nice to have extra to double up overnight, and to have some extras on wash day. The BGs air dry really quickly, but the inserts will need to tumble dry or air dry overnight. I usually air dry both - a few hours is enough for the diapers, and then I air fluff the inserts to keep them nice and soft.
  • 24 sounds good. We love our BGs! We use mainly prefolds during the day, but DS's BGs are the only diaper that will hold him overnight--they're awesome!

  • Also keep in mind you won't be able to use them til the baby is about 10 lbs.
