*sigh* DS struggles to nap it's SO frustrating!

DS has now been struggling with sleepiness since about 2:30 this afternoon.

He never has a problem going to sleep at night, but will not go down without a fight for naps!  The only way he'll fall asleep is in our arms, with a paci and even then he may wake up on his own.  And if we try and put him down, forget it!  And he spits the paci out every 10 seconds which also wakes him up.

Am I doing something wrong?

Did anyone else successfully deal with something similar?  I am at my wits end.

  • We just went through this, but DS was screaming and crying during the day when he was not feeding.  We went to a LC today and she feels that he is not getting enough when he is nursing so we started to supplement today and it has worked wonders.  I finally have my happy baby back.  GL

  • It's likely just a phase. What helped us was a snuggli blanket and swaddling her -even for Naps- hand on her Belly and she was out before we knew it...

  • My dd will fight napping until she is too tired to keep her eyes open...and then fight some more. I wouldn't say that I am successfully dealing with it, but I am starting to have an easier time. I am just trying to identify the signs that she is tired earlier, which seems to help. As soon as I see her giving me the signals, I move her to her bouncy chair with a paci and her snuggle toy and bounce her til she falls alseep, which can take a while sometimes. I also have a rough idea of a schedule that we have been working on. For example, she normally gets sleepy around 9am, so I try to make it a little quieter in the house around then and really watch for signs of sleepiness. I still have bad days where she is really fussy and fights naps, but I just keep bouncing her until she falls asleep, and eventually it happens.
  • The only way my DD will take a nap is on her stomach beside me on the couch. I know this is not a good idea but it is all that works. Now we are having trouble getting her to sleep in her bassinette at night and I think it is because she is wanting to sleep on her stomach.

  • swaddle even for naps... or take for a car ride that often helps. I also have a fairly scheduled day now and can tell when he's starting to get tired and not waiting until he's overtired has helped greatly. Good luck. It might just be a phase, and he might be bored. At that age ds was bored and needed entertainment before he would settle in for a nap.

  • i think she is just a little young.  ds only started falling asleep fairly easily for naps in  his crib within the last few weeks.  before that it was a nightmare.  the other thing that helped was putting him down AS SOON AS he had his first yawn.
