DS has been eating for over an hour. I finally broke the grip and he is in tears and wants to eat more. Help. I can't take this - it's been going on all day.
I have this problem too. DD won't take the paci but just wants to suck. when she sucks and doesn't swallow I will use my pinky finger upside down. MD said this was totally acceptable to relieve the need to want to suck. Just make sure your hands are clean!
He could be going through a growth spurt right now. There's usually one sometime around 6 weeks. If that's the case, you just have to roll with it. I usually grab my laptop, pop in a good DVD, grab some snacks and water, and park my butt on the couch with DS.
Also, have you tried giving him a pacifier? He may just want to comfort suck.
he does not like pacis. It may be a growth spurt - we give him 1 bottle a day in the morning and he sucked down 5oz in no time and still seemed hungry. grrr my poor boobs.
My daughter does this when she is hitting a growth spurt. I guess it serves its purpose, to increase production for the new bigger baby, but it does drive me crazy. I've found that if I can step away for just a little bit, then I feel less "claustrophobic" and I can come back and help her. Try not to think of all the things you can't get up and do, and concentrate on how sweet it is to sit there with your baby.
