I have had a pretty bad cold lately and have been coughing pretty hard, pretty consistently. Yesterday I noticed that when I cough my belly button pushes out more and then I started to feel a sharp pain around it, like someone stuck a hook in me and was pulling or something. Has anyone else felt or experienced anything like this?
Re: Navel Pain?
I have, and I was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. (Don't know if this is the same as you, but figured I'd share anyway.) The good news is that if it's not painful all the time, it's probably not a big deal and my doctor doesn't seem too concerned. They wouldn't do anything for it until after the baby was here, unless it was really extreme. One thing she did tell me to do was to try not to just sit or stand straight up, but to kind of roll on my side and get up that way. That's helped a lot. Also she said to kinda purposely suck my stomach in throughout the day, like as I'm walking, to try to strengthen my ab muscles. She asks about it every appt, but aside from a few instances when I think I was growing a lot, it hasn't bothered me too much. (Although I hate how it looks sometimes!) I was concerned about how it would affect labor, but she said we would just work with different positions in order to accomodate it.
One other thing I found that has helped is if it ever gets really bad and sticks out or gets painful, I sit down and try to relax and massage it back down and 9 out of 10 times, it works. She said if I ever can't get it to feel better, to call her, but I've never had to.
Hope this helps!
Glad it might help, if only to be able to bring it up with the doctor so they can better know what's going on.....
I found mine around 21 weeks, but I think that's when I had a major growth spurt and the pressure of the baby made it noticeable. I read online that a lot of people actually have this, but never notice it unless they gain a lot of weight or become pregnant!
