I go for my 6 week post partum check up tomorrow. I had a c-section and I am wondering what to expect. I want to go over birth control options too. I was thinking about getting mirena. Will I be able to get it inserted tomorrow or will I have to make another appt? Anyway, just really wanted to know what to expect. thanks
Re: 6 wk check up
I don't know about the C-section thing, but I am getting paragard, so I can tell you about my experience with that. The doctor gave me a packet and I have to order the IUD myself and have it sent to the doctor's office. When they receive the IUD, they will call me to make an appointment to have it inserted. I thought it was a little weird that I have to order it myself, but I guess that's how a lot of practices do it. Good luck at your appt!
My doctor checked my incision and did and internal to make sure that my uterus had returned to its original size (some doctors will due a pap, mine didn't). He asked how we were adapting to parenthood. He went over symptoms of clogged ducts and mastitis and what to do if I thought I had either on.
We discussed birth control options. Mirena is expensive and a lot of doctors don't keep them on hand, so you will probably need to schedule another appt to have it inserted. I decided against mirena. He did tell me that because I had a c/s (breech) and had never dialated, it would most likely be more painful to insert.
