Ugh. Work never added ds to insurance. Now I'm getting bills

It looks like they never got my paperwork to add ds, so the doctors are sending in their bills.  Work says their are going to investigate.  I'm so nervous that they will call back and say that they can't add him retroactively and we are responsible for all bills, including his birth.

  • usually it's your own responsibility to call your insurance and add them...???  at least they told us that in the hospital that we had 30 days.  that your work will not do it for you.  but maybe that was just the way my work/insurance was...

  • Yikes, that would be scary.  I hope it works out. If for some reason work won't cover him, maybe look into state programs?  Ours has a medical coverage for youth that will take care of past bills (there is a time limit), and has fairly high income limits for families .

  • WOW, if you got your paperwork in and someone else effed up, then either your work or the insurance company should step up and cover that.  I hope it works out and you don't get screwed!

  • Do you have copies of the paperwork and/or any faxes/emails you may have sent?

I did complete the paperwork to add ds and mailed it in.  They never got it.

With some companies this is true however with our insurance Dh had to actually go to his HR dept to add DS to our insurance plan.

  • We are going through the same thing!  DH added him when we got home, but I guess he didn't do it exactly right so we are getting tons of bills.  They are invesitgating it for us too.  It does show that he tried to do something with the insurance so hopefully that will help our case.

    Good luck to you!!

  • My insurance added DD as of the beginning of this year instead of her birth date of 12/8/08.  She had an ultrasound, audiology exam, and went to the doctor twice a week until a month old that I'm getting billed for.  I called my insurance and my work has to fix it.  Lucky for me no one from my work will call me back about it.
  • It's not always your responsibility to add. I called my insurance company, and they told me my work had to do it. Depends on your place of employment. I hope they get it figured out!

Ugh, what a pain in the a$$.  GL to you too!

  • I had the same issue.  I went to work and filled out all the paperwork to add DD the day after we got home from hosp.  (Req by the Ped for 1st apt - that day)  Fast forward to 34days old we were told we had no Ins on DD.  IF you have filled out the paperwork and signed and dated it then yes it will be retroactive.  Its a real PITA.  I do know I tried calling our Ins co myself to add DD and was told it had to come from our HR dept.  GL
