Major poop explosion - please help!

Wow...I am in shock. This morning my DD had a poop explosion while having her morning bottle. At first I noticed that immediately following the loud noise my leg felt warm but didn't think much of it until I lifted her and up and noticed she exploded all over me - yuck! I must have had her diaper on wrong (is that possible?) because it seemed like most of the poop was on me rather than in her diaper. We use Pampers Swaddlers which I heard are great (and of course I have a ton of them), but besides today she leaks almost every day and it is driving me crazy. What diapers do you all recommend and does anatomy make a difference? For example, you have a daughter and only use a certain brand...please help! :)

  • Hmm...I'm sure you didn't have her diaper on "wrong", but is it too small for her? We use Pampers Swaddlers, too, and I knew it was time to move up a size when DS started having daily explosions. LOL

  • I have used just about every type of diaper on the market but I am partial to pampers. My daughters has a blow out and least twice a week though. I think it has more to do with the force with which the poop is coming out than the diaper itself.  I have found that if I notice she is straining I hold her upright so she is standing. This seems to keep everything in instead of exploding up around her.
  • We had the same problem with DS.  He would get crap back everytime he pooped - UGH!  It stopped once we changed the size of his diapers we went from Pampers Swaddlers size 1 to Huggies size 2.  It still happens occasionally, but not nearly as often as it used to.  FWIW, I've used Pampers, Luv and Huggies and found that Huggies works best for DS.

  • I have a girl and have been using pampers swaddlers. Make sure the outer edge of the diaper is turned out. One time it was turned in and my god son leaked on me. Sometimes you can't help an accident with a blow out. Paige had an explosion last night but it came up the back of the diaper.

  • Hmmm - we are using size 1 and she is 10 lbs so she falls right into the range so I don't think the diaper is too small.

When we first switched to size 1 they were a bit big yet the newborns were too tight. Could just be the size. I found the huggies newborns to be a little bigger and used a few huggies newborns in between the papmers newborn and pampers 1's. Make sense?

I think an occasional blowout is to be expected, but I find it odd that she's having leaking everyday. DD is around 10 lbs and wears size 1 swaddlers too.

We haven't had any problems. Are you sure you're doing it tightly enough? Perhaps buy a small box of a different brand and see if the problem continues?

Ditto. When DD started having explosions/leaks on a daily basis, we knew that it was time to move up to the next size. With that being said, we've also tried Huggies and I hated them. They leaked every time!

  • We use Pampers Swaddlers and have an occasional leak or blowout. Like PP said, its to be expected every once in a while. We tried Huggies and had tons and tons of blowouts and leaks so we switched back. You never know though... you could try something else and see.

    GL!

  • DS always blew out diapers when I BF'd him. Now that he's on formula, no more blowouts!

  • I found that DD needed a bigger size diaper way before she ever met the upper weight limits for the size. Get the bigger ones, flare the legs out and pull the diaper as close around her legs as possible, folding the front flap down to get it snug against her body.
