So, went in for second OB appointment and get to hear the HB on a doppler. I was amazed how good and strong it was (future athlete, perhaps?).
Though, I have to say it was a bit disappointing they didn't an U/S so I could replace the 7 wk "picture" of the little blob on my fridge with something that looks more like a little baby!
My question is: is it alright to ask the Dr. to perform an U/S if one is not planned, or do they just do them on landmark appointments (first, 20wk, etc)? DH was quite disappointed he didn't get a new photo to show everybody! He's too cute...
Re: Heard the heartbeat today...still going strong! And a question...
I was only supposed to get two?and my insurance only covers three without pre-certification?but I ended up getting an additional one at 10w4d to confirm fetal heartbeat since the doppler didn't pick up the h/b at my appointment. I've had two so far (the 2nd was the NT scan) and my third will be the "big" anatomy u/s at 20 weeks.
My doctor's office doesn't have ultrasound machines and all u/s are done at the hospitals they deal with (they have two offices, each near a hospital). So unless I need another for sizing later in my pregnancy, my 20 week will be my next?and last?ultrasound.

are you having an NTS?? If so- it has to be done before you are 13w so make sure to ask your Ob and get it scheduled.
as far as getting random USs done- if there is no reason to do one- most OBs will not do it. Mine only does it if there's a poblem (bleeding, etc) or if it's too hard to find the HBs with the doppler.
Just b/c they have one in the office doesn't mean they will whip it out and give you pictures for no reason - it takes time and time = money... they also have to be on and warmed up before use- so if you are there first thing in the am chances are it's not going to be ready to use unless they had it planned.
most people only get the NTS and a 20w US if there are no problems/high risk.

Thanks for the replies. (I hope y'all know I was being a bit flip about the "fridge picture"). I guess I just assumed if they have the equipment in the office, which my Dr.s do, that they would do one to check and make sure everything is okay. Certainly can understand that they would not want to commit time/resources to do something that was unneccesary.
I am doing the NT scan, so I guess I get one then.
I feel like such a newbie with all of this...sorry if this was a silly question.
