Some doctor's can tell as early as 16 weeks, but most doctors do not look at that time. The reason why 20 weeks is so popular the reason for that appointment is to check the organs. So the gender thing is just a bonus.
So yes they can do them at 19 weeks. This is probably when your doctor will check the baby's heart and other organs that have developed.
Mine is scheduled for 18w 3d. My doctor said it was ok to do any time after 18 weeks - at least that's what he felt comfortable with... So ask your dr!
Someone a few weeks ago even mentioned that their dr scheduled theirs for 16 weeks and they were concerned it was too early so they were going to ask why. So yes, 19 weeks is a-ok!
My midwife said they could do ours at 18 weeks. I hope that's still the case because I have my heart set on it!
They *can*, but a lot of places don't like to. Apparently there is a heart structure or two that might not be fully formed until 19 weeks. If you go in early and it's not, then you have to come back. And your insurance probably won't pay for it. At least that's what I was told when I called the hospital to schedule mine.
Don't argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level then beat you with experience. - Mrs. G
My office said anytime between 17.5 weeks and 22 weeks. We had ours on the cusp at 17 weeks 2 days. It was clearly a boy! And they got all the other measurements they needed as well.
Should have been at 20 weeks and we will still have one at 20 weeks but I also had to see a specialist at 15 or 16 weeks. They did a high def u/s and we found out the sex then. I also think that because it's a boy it was easy for them to tell us early...no mistaking a boy:)
Re: Big u/s how many weeks were you?
How is it that my BABY is going to be 3?
