MOM's & toddler - mini van car seat arrangement?

How did you arrange all the car seats in your van?  My DS will be a little over 2 when the twins are born.  I am nervous about putting him in the third row.  While the twins are little they mainly sleep in the car while DS will be awake and wanting attention.  Would it better to put a baby in the third row and leave DS in one of the middle two seats?

Thanks!

  • Mine actually requested the backseat. She calls it "in the back, in the back." I have the twins right next to each other in the second row and she is behind the open spot in the third. I can't reach to hand her things, but we can talk and sing. She loves it. I actually tried it with her in the second, but she prefers this set-up.

  • I have the seats set up that all three of them are going to be in the second row. Twins by the car doors and my DS in the middle I didnt want to lose and storage room in the back for all the stuff we need to bring. I let you know how it works out when they get here

  • Our twins are not here yet but, I bought a Tahoe with a bench seat so I could put them all in the second row and not lose the storage.  I didnt want such a big car but, I didnt want to have to climb in to buckle my son into the third row, either.  It was tough though finding a Tahoe with a bench and not the captains chairs.

  • i have a grand caravan and plan to put DS in the 3rd row- he'll be just over 2 y/o.  I figure he can actually help by walking into the back and climbing up - i can't imagine trying to lug those infant seats to the back.  I don't think it will be a problem. I rarely hand DS anything while i'm driving and i figure i can talk to him just as easily if he's in the back. And since he sits directly behind me now in the middle row- if he's on the back right he can actually see me better that way.
  • I have all 3 kids on the middle row--carrier behind driver and in the middle, DD behind the passenger.  I have an Odyssey with the removable middle seat.  When the twins switch to convertible seats, I will move DD to the 3rd row, and put the twins side by side in the middle row.
  • We have DD and DS in the third row-they keep each other company.  DS likes it b/c he says he can now "hear the radio" LOL!  We have the twins in the infant seats in the second row-one behind the driver and the other behind the passenger.  We have the middle seat removed-we have an Odyssey.
  • We put our 3 year old son in the third row.  I find it too difficult to bring the baby carrier all the way to the back so we've put the twins on each side of the second row :o)
  • My twins are in the 2nd row and my toddler son is in the 3rd row.  It seemed the most practical to me because I could not imagine trying to carry a car seat to the 3rd row.  It has worked out well.  Plus DS gets to see and "talk" to the twins since they are facing him.  He loves it and it sometimes keeps the twins entertained! :)
