Toddlers: 24 Months+

this lady posted on 0-6 about how her pedi told her to start her DS on rice cereal since he isn't getting full on BM any longer and they all freaked and told her to get a new pedi.... I guess I don't understand where the pedi was wrong, if the kid is hungry and you can't get them full by BFing isn't it better to give solids than to let your child's weight drop?

Re: oy vey

  • I don't agree with giving solids too early. I probably would have started supplementing with formula instead. Besides, if you're BF it's best to wait until 6 months to introduce solids. DD's pedi told me no earlier than 5 months.

  • Loading the player...
  • her pedi told her to supplement but she is afraid her DS will stop BF, so he told her to start solids and she thinks he's crazy... there aren't too many other options...

  • my pedi told me the same thing, and colin is perfectly fine. We did a little rice cereal 2x a day starting at 5 months.
  • after a while we all come to realize you do what you must do.

I probably would have supplemented rather than start cereal... depending on the child's age. how old is the baby?   but then , is it that the child is cluster feeding during the day  or eating too frequently?  some bf babies just eat every 2 hours for a long time, dd did.. and she gained the most wt when she was bf exclusively... started other foods and started to drop the weight. ???
