If you don't mind me asking, do you know what your TSH level was when you conceived your children? ?Last checked mine was at 3.6, and I am on .125 Synthroid. ?I have always heard that they want levels between 1 and 2, but my doc said that 3.6 is in normal range and fine. ?Should I insist on more Synthroid to bring it down more? ?Obviously I don't know if this what is preventing me from conceiving, but I sure would like to rule it out. ?If anyone else has any experience with this, I welcome any info. TIA!

I don't mind at all. I'm going to have to get back with you on specifics on Monday as far as my numbers.
I wasn't diagnosed with my thyroid issue until after DS was born, when my gp found a nodule on my thyroid. My thyroid levels on the surface after that looked fine, if you just checked my TSH levels. But when they did the free t3 and t4 that's where the issue came in.
It wasn't until after my thyroidectomy that I actually started to have to take synthroid
Is your doctor checking both the TSH and an oin the free T3 and T4?
I've got to follow up with my endo on Monday about my scan, so I'll ask abut my numbers for you.
I hope this helps a little, and I'll let you know more later.

Hey Indiana, I have thyroid issues (which I find is actually very common!) I'm getting blood tests in the next week or two and seeing my endo, who knows we're TTC. I'll chime in my two cents down the road. There was also a post on GP last night about a TSH being like 1.4 but I haven't ever had mine checked before, so I don't have the proper context to know if that accurate.
SuzP--My t3 and t4 tests have come back in normal range, even when my TSH was 135! ?I do have one small nodule that we are watching. ?When they first told me all of this, I was so terrified!?

Hey guys... I don't post here often. But I may be able to help you with this. I'm a pharma rep and was trained on Thyroid Disorders & previously sold Synthroid. The one thing that you need to be sure of is that your Dr and pharmacist keep you on a branded levothyroxine product (Synthroid) and does not allow substitutions. Meaning... be sure you are NOT on generics! The thing is, generics are ok for alot of meds... but not one with a narrow therapeutic range (meaning that small changes will be a huge effect) the generic only has to be bioequivelant of 80-125%.... that's a huge difference on a drug that is measured in micrograms!
As far as your TSH levels, normal range is between 3-4, but that may not be what's "normal" for you. Encourage your Dr to do frequent testing (every 3-4 weekds) to determine what is normal. And as pp said, test Free T3 & T4 levels as well.
And you are correct, TSH levels that are not in range can effect your abililty to get pregnant.
I have Hashimotos Thryroidism. When I was diagnosed, my TSH was 6.3. In a few months, we were able to get it down to 1.9. Last week I was at 1.6.
My RE said it has to be 2 or less to maintain a pg. With my lower levels, I finally got pg for the first time in Dec, but unfortunately m/c. However, I am positive that a lower thyroid level helped me to even get implantation.
I would say 3.4 is still too high for pg in just my personal opinion and what little bit of research and discussions I've seen. If your dr or RE is not receptive to increasing your meds to lower it more, I would schedule an appointment with a regular endocriologist to get evaluated.
I don't have the link, but a few years ago, the american society (academy?) of endocrinologists revamped the recommended target range for normal thyroid function. I think the new range tops out at 3. So a 3.4 is now above normal even if you're not trying to get pg. A lot of labs and regular doctors are not aware of the new rating scale and still use the old scale.
TTC #1 for over 5 years - too many to count IF treatments (tried everything and anything), repeat miscarriages.
Finally, Sticky Success!! B/G Twins arrived 2011.
