I don't think boys have a generic placeholder the way girls names do. What I do see with boys is middle name being Dad's name, at least the first time.
i don't think so. i absolutely HATE marie/ lynn/ ann/ jo/ rae/ etc. middle names but i think that even though alexander is common, it is a traditional-sounding name. maybe it's because it is much longer than all those. but i'm so glad someone else recognizes the overuse of those names too!
