I work for an investment company (think Legg Mason, T. Rowe Price, ETrade)...
Well, they're trying hard not to lay off, but the economy is not in our favor. They've done as much as to cut the temperatures down in the building to save money.
I lost my job in Oct and I was just called for an interview last week. I am 26 weeks pregnant and it was the most uncomfortable situation to go in there and say I can work for you for three months but then I would like 3 months off to stay with my newborn. I am sure I will be sitting by the phone waiting for their call. The sad thing also is with these companies 3 months is typically their probation period so I am screwed either way. I know some places require you to work there a year before you are eligible for maternity leave.
I got laid off on New Years Eve, when I was 11 wks. Still looking, but not looking great. (8.4% unemployment in our state) Try to stay positive though, and maybe go ahead and start putting feelers out.

Guess we just gotta pray.
