Confused about prenatal testing
Perhaps I'm missing something... Is there a difference between the NT scan and the First Screen? I am assuming they are the same thing and/or the NT scan is included in the first screen, right? Which is the test that detects neural tube defects and which is the test that determines your risk factors for Down's and Trisomy 18? Is that all part of the stuff done at my 12week appt or is some of it elective?
The reason I'm confused is my paperwork from the doc says that I'll have the first screen done @ my next appt in a few weeks (which I'm assuming includes an u/s?) and then at 16 weeks a "referral for u/s" is given (I don't know what for) and then at 20 weeks is the next u/s. But that nurse at my first appt said that only one u/s is given @ 20 weeks and that's it. WTF? I'm so confused.
