How's my cervix? I have no idea!

Do you guys think it is odd that I have never had a cervical exam to check for softening/length/all of the other things ya'll talk about?  I mean, I know it's still there and I'm guessing everything is OK but it just seems like you all are much more "in the know" about what is going on down there.  I'm going to ask about it at my appt. on Tuesday but has anyone else been in the dark about their cervical condition?

Re: How's my cervix? I have no idea!

  • do they check it at your ultrasounds? i only had one manual check done (at 32 weeks) but at my ultrasounds, they'd measure it, usually with a dildocam.

  • LOL at dildocam!  No, they don't check it at my u/s.  It's really never been checked.

  • At your next u/s ask them; they should be able to tell you length, but they did not check softening until much later in the pregnancy maybe 36 weeks or so.

Every appointment I had to ask (what was my BP?; how does my cervix look?; does it look like there enough fluid for both babies? etc...)

  • The plan is for my MFM to check via u/s at our monthly appts. I also requested my OB start checking via u/s at our monthly appts starting at 24 weeks  - based on everything I've learned on this board. This way I'll be checked every 2 weeks and hopefully will catch any issues early on. If anything, the ladies on this board have taught me that situations change fast and even though I have no reason to think anything will go wrong, catching issues early can make a HUGE difference for our babies. Atleast you are getting far enough along that you have probably avoided most major problems, but I'd still request to get checked. Good luck!

  • The dr. told me that I would have cervical length u/s every 2-3 weeks.
  • I only had mine checked at 17w due to some spotting. Otherwise, no checks. My u/s tech told me they aren't supposed to measure cervical length with an abdominal u/s, only vaginal. I am scheduled for a cervical check at my next appt, which is 28w. So, no, I'm sort of in the same boat as you, but others seem to have it checked constantly. Mine only checks if there is a reason to suspect something has changed, something about not wanting to 'stir anything up'.
  • I was getting the dildocam cervical length checks every app't through 32 weeks, and after that I got a manual exam every few weeks. My OB didn't push those though; he'd ask if I wanted him to check it.

  • I think I only got checked because I had a lot of bleeding episodes. If everything is going fine for you, they may not check it yet?
