$600K on Long Island, NY. 3 bed, 1bth, but a really well re-done kitchen. my lot size is 40x100. My house is charming and in good shape, but it was built in 1929 with the room sizes that go along with it.
We paid $325k in S.Jersey (outside of Philly) for 3br/2.5ba. I THINK we've got about 2,500sq.ft but I'm not 100% sure on that. Our house needs some updating but what I really LOVE is the charm and beauty of our development.
We just built a house. . .2700sf, 4 beds, 2 full, 2 half baths, 2 car attached garage. Finished basement, hardwood floors throughout, ceramic tile in all baths, granite counters on about a 3/4 acre lot. Price tag with our upgrades, $193,500. Yes, we are very lucky, we live in a fantastic area!!!! Suburbia, but with a major city close by, all the shopping I could want. LOVE it!
We bought ours in 2001 and paid $142k. It is in central Florida, and is a 1900 sq ft home with 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a 2 car garage. In 2005 we had a pool built. We are on 1/4 acre on a greenbelt. If we had to sell today we would probably only get $215k, and that's pushing it.
$392 K. MD suburb close to DC. 3 floor townhouse. 2400 sq ft. 3 br, 4 bath, large basement (man cave), great kitchen, separate living room- lots of space. 10 years old at the time in great shape.
We are looking at moving even closer to DC in a pretty expensive area and a SFH will run $650K minimum for an older house.
I live in Westchester County, NY, in a town called Peekskill, but it's on the border of Peekskill and Cortland Manor. We bought our townhouse in 2005 for $335K. It was listed for $345K, which was a steal for what we got, but the guy was having a bad divorce and just wanted to get rid of the house.
It's a corner-unit townhouse, with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms upstairs, full attic, downstairs we have a kitchen (the original owner went for upgrades in the kitchen so we have really nice cabinets and tile), dining and living area, fireplace, half bath and a very large laundry room that's good for storage. Our backyard isn't fenced in, but we have a large patio and a lot of grass (we and our neighbors all hang out having BBQs in the back during the summer).
The complex also has a clubhouse, with full-size heated indoor pool, gym, basketball and raquetball courts, meeting area, etc.
My babies!!

We paid $815,000 and luckily according to the assessment it's still worth about that much. We bought almost 2 years ago so it could have gone horribly awry. Anyway, my house is 1560sf on a 12,500sf lot. It only has one bathroom, is on a septic has the original kitchen (cabinets, countertops and all from the late 40's), and no A/C...and we have a wall heater.
We bought it for the potential to add on and add a guest house in the back. My husband really wanted a decent lot size which are hard to come by around here so we paid a lot for the land which is not uncommon around here.
I live in Northern Va just outside D.C. I paid $355k for my house in 2003 and it needed quite a bit of work. Its 4 BR, 2.5 BA. 1200 SF not including finished basement family room. None of the 60s baths were updated (pink sink, toilet, etc.), kitchen was old and falling apart and it was a bright yellow color ... among other things. We've done a ton of work on it.
The house is ugly and I don't love it, but its close to work and works for our family. I'm hoping to move somewhere much less expensive with older homes with more character should congress ever decide people at my agency can telecommute from long distances (possible in the next couple of years).
We built a custom home in Madison, MS on waterfront property in a new development a year and a half ago (back when the cost of building materials jumped in price as did oil, etc). 5 bdrms, 5 baths, 4,000 sq. ft. with additional unfinished space above the 3 car garage and lots of custom finishes. $860,000
$113K for a 936 sq ft. 2 bedroom house in central west coast FL. It has a decent yard but the house feels so small! But hell, we could afford it so it is our cozy little sanctuary.
Our house is roughly $500K, You get a 50X150 lot, 2500 square foot renovated and added onto 1920's bungalow, 4 beds + a nursery/office, 3 baths, 3 miles from the center of Atlanta, surrounded by parks (there are 4 within 4 blocks of my house and an addition "land trust" which is kind of a private park owned by our community.), as good of public schools as you can get in Georgia. Great neighbors, lots of community events. 1/4 mile to a major museum, shops, and restaurants.
$44K for a 3 bedroom, 1 bath 1930's bungalow in rural Kansas. We are buying it from my mom and step-dad, though, so we are getting a steal. It would probably be more like $60K if it went on the market. We have about 1400 sq. ft. on our main floor, but also have a full basement. We have a decent sized, fenced-in lot.
I live in Minnesota. But not anywhere near Minneapolis or it's suburbs. We bought our 3 bed, 1 bath - 1300 sq. ft + basement, traditional 80 year old 2 story home for 92,500 in late 2004. It had many updates (electrical, water heater, windows, etc) but plenty left to be done (like the lovely green swirly counters paired with blue plaid wallpaper in the kitchen, lol).

I'm a bit late. We live in a Chicago suburb and paid $245K. It is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom, 2 car attached garage, split level. Nice sized yard around 1900 sq ft.
$965K. It's a 4 bedroom house on half an acre, 3 bathrooms, 2 car garage. 3600 sq ft. (I think). In a great neighborhood with great schools. It's a fixer upper & needs a ton of work. We've already done a bunch of remodeling to it but it's BY FAR the crappiest house in our neighborhood. We bought it for the "potential". :-)
anneucsb & grace - you guys are making me feel better!
Wow! Ok, I'll play. $680,000.00 (we didn't pay that, we paid cost since my dad built it). 4 bed, 4 bath with an office and 3 car garage (a double and a single) on a golf course. Orlando suburbs.
Built our house in 2006 for $250,000. ?Two story, 4 bedroom, 3 full bath, one half bath, 3 car garage, finished basement with a bit over 3,200 square feet. ?We live on a large corner lot in a fabulous neighborhood.
72k, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, office, play room, attic that is finished, but needs the 70s wall paper down and then that will be another bedroom, basement has a work bench for MH down there. ?THANK GOD. ?
Oh, man AnneUCSB, I agree with feeling the pain (as we're looking at tiny crap houses to rent in the LA area for a lovely $4000/mo). This market is making the $500-700k houses in Philly (from where we just moved) look like a steal...
$255K 2.5yrs ago...It's 2bd/1ba 1920s, 1050SF brick bungalow...it has lots of character but a 1980s ugly kitchen w/ no dishwasher. I am not including a mostly finished basement w/ a family room, bath, laundry & bedroom. It's on the edge of a pretty good neighborhood (my house is probably the cheapest in the entire neighborhood) & in a good public school district (for Denver). One and half blocks from a 330acre park w/ lakes, the zoo, the Nature Museum & walking distance to pretty much anything. Downtown is about 1.5miles away. The lot is decent size for the city but it needs work. We could get a much bigger, newer house in the burbs.

Re: s/o What did you pay for your house?
We have a 4 bedroom 2.5 bath 1 car garage house on 1/4 acre in central florida- 2-story w/front porch.
My husband built our home so it cost us significantly less than what it would be sold for on the market.
We paid $105k. It's two bedroom, eat-in kitchen, fenced in back yard, finished game room, 1 car integral garage.
I live in Pittsburgh, PA.
$600K on Long Island, NY. 3 bed, 1bth, but a really well re-done kitchen. my lot size is 40x100. My house is charming and in good shape, but it was built in 1929 with the room sizes that go along with it.
$190K on the Eastern Shore of MD. It was a major bargain for my neighborhood.
3 BR 2 BA, 1 car garage, brick ranch on a corner lot. Fenced back yard with shed. 1476 sf.

These posts always make me so sad.
We paid $730,000 for our 1,000 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, 1 car garage, 5,000 sq ft lot in Northern California. ?
My mom lives 1 mile away and paid $2.1 million for her 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, 3300 sq ft, 15,000 sq ft lot, 2 car garage house. ?Yep. ?No joke.?

However, we got it for a steal b/c it was almost 30 years old and the kitchen and bathroom hadn't been touched in those 30 years.
